*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Could not see anyone from TDR on last night but managed to finish a heroic in a random group. Did not realise that Operatives are so squishy!

I am used to playing high armour chars (Main Tank in WoW raiding guild or BS and bigger in EVE) and forgot to run away! Oops.

Anyone else in a Frostclaw Empire guild happy to take on a noob for levelling and running groups please let me know. :)

I was watching hockey so did not log on last night. I will hopefully be on tonight from about 20:00 if you dont get in before then.

Exactly, SWG was marketed as having your own saga in the Star Wars Universe, not relive the events of the movie.

This.

One of the things that annoyed me most about this game during its buildup was the amount BW used the word 'Heroic'. Why does it have to be all about reliving the saga of the movie? Surely that then limits the story to one that is finite, as opposed to your own one? Sure, cater to the people that want to be uber tough, that's to be expected and a large proportion of players play games to be the tough guy, the one that beats all his foes.

But what about the player that doesn't want to be a hero? The player that just wants to exist in a universe and make a name for himself in other ways, such a being a reknowned crafter for example, or a great entertainer? That is one of the biggest things that I miss from SWG - it was a universe made up of all types of character, that all had different roles to play, that all had a purpose. Not a small collection of roles that are all about slicing the **** out of everything in sight.

I know that SWTOR wasn't meant to be an SWG replacement, but I can't help but feel there are some really cool aspects of it that could be incorporated into this game which would make it better. I'm really enjoying playing this game, but once I have played through the different stories and seen the content, I'm not sure if it will hold me, I guess I'll have to see what direction the game goes.

And FWIW, I thought Jedi implementation in SWG was brilliant. Someone mentioned about only hardcore players getting one, well yes and no. The opportunity was there for anyone, it just would have taken a lot longer to do for a non-hardcore player. But I had no issue with that, it did fit in with the lore of the timeline and lets not forget it was a risky and difficult thing playing a Jedi in that game. To be fair you didn't even need to be one - there was so much more to the game than that.

Damn I miss it! :(

Bring it down to its base level as it were, and leave it alone in future (which is what I'm assuming they are doing with the gear degradation).

Once you start messing around with class mechanics / damage with PvP in mind, you impact the PvE side of things, and always mess this up. You then get into the nerf bat/buff cycle to classes and take up valuable dev time trying to 'balance' which can be used on the PvE side of things, you know the core aspect of ToR..

If it's meangful PvP you came to the game for, you've made an error. Go find a PvP title :)
This isn't meant to sound harsh by the way, but if other successful MMO's that have been around for a long time haven't managed to find a balance, learn from their mistakes. PvP will only ever be balanced if its designed from the ground up to be that way.

Then I riddle you this, fine everyone gets brought down to a "base level" where everyone has the same stats, fine everything is fair yes? well team A has a fair mix of classes Team B has a majority of overpowered classes say Smuggler, these smugglers are not the most skilled players but how skilful do you have to be to stun back stab back stab back stab vanish stun repeat.
So by chance these smugglers get coordinated of sort and target key players and your team gets butt slammed just because there were X amount of overpowered classes on the opposite team. All those overpowered classes regardless of gear could dish out the same damage. I mean I am up for fairness but the above scenario is unfair so some of the people on your team say eff this I will never be able to beat a Smuggler let me roll IA and the opposition will see hey these smugglers just wiped the floor with everyone oooh let me roll one month down the line if you are as hard headed as me really liking your class will be in a team consisting of just a over powered class versus a whole team of just one overpowered class because why bother playing you preferred class as you can never win against said class.

Gear I think is there to even things out to an extent if classes can’t be balanced, extreme scenario sure but far fetched?

And telling me to quit and find another game does not prove your point nor sway me toward it
i am happy the way things are your argument is to change it :p

Havent checked this thread for a while so Im not sure what the PvP gear debate is about.

I will say one thing though, if I have to do any Flashpoints or Raids to compete on an equal footing in warzones, Ill be unsubbing faster than a fast thing.

I could give it a go. Should hit 14 tonight I think with my rested as I dont play huge amounts. Still in Dromand Kass and working my way through the zone. Have the 2 man heroic from the fleet to do though and I am happy to do anything that gains xp :)

My char is Loranna btw. Human Operative.

Going to be starting my char tonight on Frostclaw, still cant decide if should level my sorc or my bh

Kimbie
If its a Powertech Bounty Hunter then i suggest you level that, Sorcs are very good but also very very easy to play. Powertech's are awesome in a group on voice coms and harder to play but can kill just as efficiently and have excellent utility.

49 just now on my Sorc alt and am completely bored with it, I'd say that 99% of the warzones i've played since around level 20 i've been the top damage dealer by roughly double anyone else in the match, always with the least deaths and contribute to most of the scoring/objective wins. That's not because i'm the best player around, some of the people i play with i know are better than me and some of the random must be statistically... it's just down to the class handing you everything on a plate without having to put any thought into it.

As soon as i hit 50 on it tonight i'm rolling a marauder, i love my juggernaut and it's a challenge to play so hoping for more of the same.

Edit - Parting thought, i'd rather have a Powertech on my team than yet another Sorc, regardless of the class i was playing and regardless of the spec the PT was running.

I've always been curious as to how easy Sith Sorcerers really are to play. If you had picked Assassin instead you'd be saying the complete opposite :D

I've rolled a Merc on ToFN with my RL buddy, pretty fun class with ridiculous amounts of damage. Not sure if it will be my main character yet though.

dps sorcerer's are probably faceroll but the healing type are pretty damn tricky to manage.

on another note, we cleared most of eternity vault last night in our first guild raid. was a lot of fun healing it.

I made it because some of the guys that play them on vent were bitching about melee on theirs and wanted to see the flip side. Turns out they were right though as well played Rage Juggernauts i have a lot of trouble with as the smash crits are insane when on the recieving end, Marauders are a pain in the bum if a good player is on the keyboard as they make me have to cc and run, assassins i never have trouble with on either my jugg or sorc.

Oddly i have more trouble with operatives/smugglers on my jugg than i do on the sorc too.

Have a sin sitting at 22 since the first week of the game, might have to give it a bash over the weekend :p

They suck with pugs but really make the game in a proper vent group. Can't stand heal spec in a pug as no one peels, guards etc and you end up saving so many of the same people's arses match after match yet rarely does one look after you. Hard as hell to heal yourself through focus even with the pushback feat.

Once server transfers come in i'm going to have to transfer my toons over to one of the EU servers you guys play on, playing on a US server with people i've played with for years but they're all getting bored and not logging in these days.

Just FYI most MMOs don't let you transfer to an EU realm from a US one. Pretty sure even WoW worked this way. If Bioware even implement it that is?

Boom up coming content leak:

Patch 1.2 - Prepare to return to Corellia to battle each other for control over the Black Hole, scout the Lost Island, and head to the planet of Denova to battle it out against both the Republic and Empire.

Patch 1.3 - Discover the Legacy of the HK series of Assassin Droids, discover the horrors hiding deep within Belsavis, obtain Czerka Technology and aid Gree Droids as the mighty black bisector.

Patch 1.4 - Battle with the Hutts on their homeworld of Varl and take the fight directly to them.

Patch 1.5 - Trek to the ancient secret capital of Rakata Prime, do battle with a rogue Imperial Warlord and face off against The Dread Masters.

Damn it, why are operatives so much more powerful compared to assassins? Really annoying being beaten upon by someone half your level with half the available skills and talent points available. It's not all skill.

If your talking about the ops that pop out of stealth and knock your health down to 50% in 3 moves, not only are they getting nerfed, but that is pretty much all they can do, if you can get them out of stealth before they nuke you, there useless.

Same with the bounty hunter tracer missile spammers, if you interrupt them casting, they just stand there and have no idea what to do.
