****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

If for whatever reason you cant restore a CWM backup via recovery mode can you restore it by flashing via Odin? If so, which file do you flash? I created a backup just now and of the 6 or so files there's data.ext4.tar and system.ext4.tar that are both 350mb or so.

Spank you.

I'm getting md5 checksum errors for no obvious reason. I can only assume it has something to do with installing miui.

Yep, I had the same problem. I found that Miui installs an older CWM version, which can't restore newer backups. Flash something like Siyah kernel and try restoring the backup

I don't think you can, at least in 2.3. There's a work around though - if you wipe data/cache of TWLauncher, it should restart with the apps sorted :p

edit: You'll lose your homescreen setup though. Pain in the ass having to do it every time you install a new app. You could just use the list view in the app drawer?

ended up clearing cache which sorted it thx . don't like list view !

Guys I'm thinking of getting a nexus, i have been offered 250 quid for my galaxy s2 with cash 4 phones.Atm I'm using lightning rom.I was just wondering if anyone knows how to restore phone to stock rom/factory settings without a jig?

I have a feeling they will not accept it with different firmware/rom.

Sorry,

No this is the stock rom (cf-root link is in this thread if required)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420996

There are quite a few variant of it where people have deodexed, xip-aligned, replaced apps with AOSP versions ect, of which the one you posted there is just one of them. As long as it's LBP based, you should be good, but my personal preference is to stick with the vanilla samsung releases while the ICS codebase is still in beta. I might well try some of the modified roms when ICS is officially released but I am already impressed with the stock roms :)

Thanks man, I'll give this a go.

Much appreciated

Can you flash other kernels with miui? I'd assumed that ROMs like miui and CM7 were only compatible with their own kernels.

Yeah, the .tar backup means it was backed up using CWM Recovery 5, if you have CWM Recovery 4 (uses .img backups) just flash any CF-Root/Siyah kernel that has CWM5 (don't worry about the phone not booting if you use CF-Root, it doesn't need to boot for this) and then restore the backup :).

You can flash anything you want, it won't necessarily boot though :p. Siyah works with Samsung/CM based ROMs, not sure about with MIUI, CF-Root will only work with Samsung ROMs. For his purpose though it doesn't need to boot, recovery mode will work fine :).

Edit: If you rename CWM backups and use a space it will result in a checksum error I think, incase you renamed it to remember what it was.

tried lp2 i like it except for the way the contacts and dialer is split
is this a general feature in ics or just the latest leak as its the only one i have tried
is there any way i can change it back to the same as gingerbread stock dialer?

At the moment siyah is the only kernel available for MIUI/CM7, NEAK kernel will be trying to implement something similar soon.

Check out the miui forums they have a kernel section I think.

Edit: RedPill kernel released today universal version supports MIUI.

My battery is hardly lasting a day. Is it possible ive damaged my battery by using my old Nokia e72 charger ? Same problem with lpb and any gb Rom :(

Doubt that'll help. I wiped battery stats between flashing Roms?

Sure ive read on xda that i9100 batteries requiring calibration is a myth too.

Wiping battery stats does nothing on the SGS2 :).

Charging the battery when off then pulling the battery for a minute or so will, supposedly, force a calibration, I've never seen anything (evidence wise, plenty of people have said it does) to suggest it actually makes a difference though, it definitly hasn't when I've done it.

Edit: loltim, the charger shouldn't have damaged it, how much power is drawn depends on what the phone wants, not how much the charger wants to give (obviously if it's below what the charger outputs :p).

Anything look weird in BBS?
