Surely it's worth more than £3k ?
This. Unless it's a high mileage CAT D '99, then it should fetch more then £3k...
Have you thought about hanging on to it for a few weeks/months until the sun comes out? IIRC, soft top prices spike a little during the better seasons...
When's the wedding/bill due?
What's the spec/details?
I didn't realise the S2000 was only worth £3k.
Truth be told I'd finance it some other way.
However I do believe in putting out the boat for a wedding. Nothing stupid like some people like you see, but it is one of the most important days of your life, not to mention a great gathering of people both new and old.
Good luck.![]()
Congrats on the engagement...I to have recently got engaged to my gf!
Have a look at MG ZT's...They seem to get very good reviews and also can get them cheap also. Alternatively the rover 75 equivalent!
Pmsl, I love these thread where people can't just turn round and say 'no' to their gf/wife etc.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH DONT JUDGE ME AND MY CHOICES I JUST WANT CAR ADVIIIICE."
Why did you even bring up the reason for sale/wedding/other TOTALLY irrelevant info then?
Selling it to fund a wedding is stupid.
Selling it irrespective of the wedding to free up pocket change is stupid.
Selling it for any reason other than an upgrade is, imo, stupid.
As Fox said, you net 3 grand, dump 1-1.5k into something else upfront plus additional for anything else it might need + time + hassle = LOLWAT?
Totally uncalled for.
Is selling it in favour of something with rear seats / a bigger boot stupid?
Only ever upgrading is a nice ideal, but not always consistent with reality...
Fox has a fair point, but given the stated desire for something more practical, the change is more sensible than the idea of selling only to buy another S2K next year would be.
Some of the banter (that the OP invited to be fair) strays a bit too far. Some of the tubthumping 'men' in here are coming across as over-indulgent little boys.
Fair play to the real man trying to live within his means, and not just expecting the old man to pick up the tab for an unextravangant wedding.
To be fair to the OP, he's handled himself well and it doesn't look like that what this is.
If the sale would only liquidate a couple of grand, then I'd think it was a mistake, but it seems he's looking for a change anyway, ie what ever the fun replacement might be next year, it wouldn't be a 2 seater. Given that context, it doesn't seem so daft afterall...
Fair play for wanting to stand on his own two feet I say. I'd imagine that's something you might empathise with?

3k, what's wrong with it?!
If nothing, I'd be seriously tempted to take it away from you despite agreeing you shouldn't sell.![]()
Wait till march. Will be worth more. Make sure you do the maths on any change. The insurance should be a lot cheaper too ?
I'd look at getting a cheap £500 to make it worthwhile. It sounds like you don't do many miles. Other option is a 22 month 0% credit card to pay for the wedding![]()
Nothing that I know of!
There's a scrape on the front bumper as mentioend above, no idea how it got there I came back to the car and it was like it.
The hood mechanically is fine, there's the tell tale signs of rubbing on the hood as what happens to all s2000's, but it's all fine.
Everything else is gravy.
It's a good idea to wait till March, thanks for suggesting that.
Insurance will be a lot cheaper, currently paying over £100 a month, even with 7 years no claims and a reasonable postcode.
I need to chop the S2000 in for something a bit more practical, I need 4 seats and a boot and also while i'm at it, i'd like to free up a bit of capital to put towards my wedding so something cheap and cheerful would be good
OCUK; Unfortuantely that time has come. I'm getting married! No need for the congratulations as to help pay for this I'm going to have to get rid of the s2000! Boooooooo.
Come on Sin, we both have been around long enough to know how motors work.
What's the score re service history / MOT? What are the wheels, and what are the tyres like? Isn't there a big bill (~£1k?) waiting to happen with S2Ks in general? Something to do with seized bushes? Have they been done?
TBH this thread would have probably taken a totally different tact if you'd said
instead of
which made it sound like the only reason you wanted to sell it was to raise money for the wedding...
hilly said:ideally, something with a decent size (saloon size) with a decent boot and rear seats (for a change!).
As said, I need it to last me the year, so cheap parts and servicing. As once 2012 is over she'll have to suffer me getting something decent again (ecpect another thread!).
Having sold my much loved and much missed e38 7 Series to fund a holiday, with a person I'm not even in a relationship with anymore, I'm not going to judge you for your reasons why.
Put it this way, I still rue selling it to this day and still hanker after another e38 but I don't regret the act itself and thoroughly enjoyed my holiday with her, memories that will stay with me for life.
I would imagine, your wedding day should be the above memory ten fold!
As for the car, drop £1k on a Mondeo, I did, worked for me, hated it after the 7 Series, as you'd expect.
This message will self destruct in.............![]()
You opened with "selling S2000 BOOOOO."
You cannot booooo your own decision made by no influence other than you just want to. This is crazyness![]()
