Lana Del Rey - Video Games

She's the emperors new clothes.

And I think it's very cynical to go out and purposely make music just so it will end up in adverts, films and tv programs, because that's just what she's done.

And to all those saying she's got a brilliant voice, let me say that liking something doesn't make it brilliant. She really isn't all that.
 
massively massively overrated

i think those live performances are rubbish myself.

studio version of video games is a great song but did she write ? and does she sing it better than someone like adele etc would sing it ? doubt it
 
You don't have to be a "literally" great singer, IE have a great voice, to be a great singer. its about music, voice, style all syncing up. Adele's voice would be awful on Video Games, really awful, wrong style, wrong power, wrong feel, just completely wrong. I mean, quite a lot of Del ray's music is, mumbly type, but it absolutely suits most of the songs, and she changes up with a more "clean" singing voice in most of her songs at different points. Adele powering through these songs with a perfect voice, just wouldn't work in the slightest.

Her voice mostly suits her music, its mostly when this isn't true that I don't like the song. If she wrote the music, who knows, very few people seem to anymore, its one of the many things that has turned me off music in general for so long.

As for ridiculously poor live(if she is, I'm saying in general) another thing that has put me off music. The last festival I went to years ago, and the first almost 15 years ago were both so disappointing overall. Muse were outstanding live, Chillipepers threw a tantrum and put in a rubbish set, most of the other stuff was truly disappointing(but you CAN NOT beat Matrix, in a tent at 2am, maybe having smoked something, drunk, when Neo goes "whoa" and everyone laughs together, or the throat bit in the station).

Something just absolutely grates about someone who can't sing but albums can be "made" with any voice they ruddy want. Madonna can't sing live AT ALL, she's a horrifically bad performer(though in her case her music is utter turd anyway).

Basically not having a technically great voice, or being great live makes her.... no different to most musicians out there.
 
i was more getting at the fact that she doesn't write her own songs AND can't perform them that great live. she got into the business via a team of writers , managers and producers paid for by her father. whereas many others such as mentioned got into it by working hard and being genuinely great

I'd only heard her name mentioned once or twice before I gave her album a listen. I'd never heard any hype. Actually, the things I'd heard were all 'negative' (rich Daddy, collagen lips blah blah blah).

Fine, you don't like her. Others do. It's called personal taste.

Interesting. She appears to have writing credits on all songs on the album. Unless you know different?

No, watching her sing live doesn't appeal to me either. She lacks any stage presence or confidence when singing live.
 
The music video for video games is terrible - how can we try to appeal to as many people as possible in one video?

Track is ok but the lyrics are confusing and contradictory. The use of video game just seems to be to try and gain mass appeal, it's not a remotely catchy hook and is just bizarre.

Also, the drum track that fades in is totally unecessary and feels cliched.

The whole song is trying too hard and the otherwise great vocal performance can't save it.

Not a fan, find her music boring really and overplayed. The songs seem too slow and without any life to them.

big fan of hers, loved the first two songs, but she did get over hyped a little, the album is not that great, but she does have a certain style and i love her voice and how she uses her eyes when she sings..... that makes sense
 
Absolutely love this girl. Her album 'Born to Die' is brilliant. I found her Brits acceptance speech hilarious for some strange reason but she seemed really humbled and she seems really down to earth and polite :) I honestly didn't think that her album would stand a chance in the UK top 40 Chart as I would assume kids wouldn't 'get' her but hey, #1 the first week it was released and it outsold the top 5 albums, brilliant stuff. Way to go Lizzy Grant :)
