No more btjunkie :-(

Because installing an NZB client and inputting your newsgroup details is so much more technical than installing uTorrent and sorting out the port forwarding right?

The difference being most people don't have any idea what a newsgroup is, honestly go and do a staw pole in a non techie setting they will just look at you blankly.

They probably don't know what a torrent is either but chances are they will have 'downloaded something off the pirate bay' also news groups generally require a subscription service torrents generally don't.

No idea what port forwarding you did for a torrent client I just installed it and clicked go windows prompted me to open ports on the built in firewall and that was it no port forwarding required.

Netflix has got the right idea. Why pirate stuff when Netflix is cheap, easy and legal?
I agree, I've not bothered to download an illegal MP3 since getting spotify. I got sucked in by the free add supported version and now pay £10 a month for it. Subscription access to a library of media is the way forwards IMHO.

ye and 2 years late ;) even then it has nothing good to watch.. like 3% of all the movies :) so yes pirating is better choice this time.. i've tried netflix and it took me a week and i had nothing to watch now im on lovefilm while it looks better the new movies are still pay-per-view which is no way fighting the piracy in any way ;)

I have a non UPNP enabled router lol.

Times really are changing, if only one of the newsgroups would fall as well then it really would show a sisemic shift.

Love it when people on this forum say something like this (ignoring the lolxxx meme which is really ready to die) torrents are still massively popular the vast majority of ordinary people downloading stuff are not using ssl newsgroups behind three proxies and through a vpn. They are using which ever method is free and simple assuming everyone is as techy as the average user on this forums is laughable!

loltorrents tbh!

Newsgroups aren't like they used to be either because a lot of pressure has been put on them to take down content (at least the public ones). Bittorrent will last because its easy to set up a tracker, and there are some amazing private ones floating around. I guess the more pressure that is put on them the more they will become private.

Likewise, however I cannot stop being annoyed when I have the perfect playlist on there and a bunch of songs get removed/made unavailable in this country after a couple of weeks.

I don't know if it's the individual artists or the labels they're on that pull the songs, but it does NOT encourage me to support them, legally.

I hate what the labels did to Pandora... making it unavailable in the UK.
Make things legally available, for a cheap (reasonable) price, with no stupid DRM limits - people often have multiple machines (PC, Laptop, MP3 player, Phone) etc... without regional (country-specific) limits on availability / things being released months/years ahead in other parts of the world and piracy WILL fall.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

LOL, not saying it's the only driver but to say it's nothing to do with it is frankly ridiculous otherwise the level of music piracy would be tiny as 99% of it is available for download from simple services at a reasonable price.

You are dumb. On-demand is where it is at. No-one offers such a great service as downloading it yourself. I actually have sky but don't use it because of the trash that is on. My sky box isn't even plugged in.

Netflix is the way forward considering i pay for a service i don't want already.

GIVE ME WHAT I WANT AND I WILL PAY... aslong as it is reasonably/affordably priced.

The only reason everything isn't On demand is because somebody wants to cash in. It's not like we don't have the technology. GREEED

Where did I say streaming wasn't the future?

I'm just questioning the fact someone said 'free' isn't a driver for piracy when for a lot of people it clearly is otherwise mucis piracy wouldn't be rampant given the availability through iTunes and streaming services like spotify.

I love the moving goal posts of pro-piracy posters as well it used to be when they make it available for download DRM free I'll pay for it, now it's when I can stream everything I want when I want and where I want I'll pay for it and it's always been qualified with the tag line 'reasonable price' which seems to fall at an exponential rate.

If its everything on-demand why would anyone care about DRM? If anyone1 moves the posts its the media companies making it difficult for anyone to get what they want under one package.

and if people feel they are getting shafted then they rebel. Piracy is nothing but rebellion.

I came into this thread fully expecting the forum member btjunkie to be dead. Then reading the op I briefly believed it was some sort of loving eulogy about turning off his life support before my brain actually registered what I was reading.

Should point out that I'm not actually mad despite what the emoticon suggests, obviously its a good thing no one has died and its just some retro pirating service going down the toilet instead.

Edit - it would seem there isn't even a member called btjunkie... Who the hell am I thinking of then?
