Halifax reward account

I'm with them mainly for the AA/Phone/Holiday cover - have been with them for 2 years now but haven't claimed on anything so can't really comment on customer service.

Halifax are great for somethings, poor for others in my opinion.

Day to day banking is perfect, quick, reliable, easy. Anything beyond that and well... :(

"YOU WANT TO ARRANGE TO WITHDRAW A LARGE SUM OF MONEY!? ... I'M MELTING..."

yeah i wanted to withdraw £2k from my halifax account a few years ago and they had a mental, its not even that much money, idiots!

Online banking with Halifax is far from awful compared to a lot of other banks, it's surprisingly good. I've been with them for 12 months now and not had a single problem that a quick phone call hasn't resolved.

If you ever need to call them, visit saynoto0870.com to get a local or 0800 number, tehre's always one.

I changed because I was sick of Natwest trying sell me things everytime I go in and the queue's are always massive.

Me: Hi can I pay this in please
NatWest: Oh we have a note on your account please take a seat.
Me: OhhhNOEEES!!!!!
After a 15 minute wait
Natwest: oh you have a note that you a due a review. (Review = we would like to sell you insurance you dont need)
FUUUUUUUUUUUU

Me: Hi Can I pay this in.
Natwest: sure, would you like a Mortgage.
Me: Yes please.
Natwest: Take a seat
Waits 10 mins to be took in a room
Natwest do you have your 20k depost
Me: well no you did not ask me that you offered me a Mortgage.
:D

Me: Hi I would like to pay this in
Natwest: sure, when is your house insurance due.

Awful bank.

I am more than happy with my reward account. I have never dipped in to my overdraft so no problem with the fees. They were very up front about the fees on arranged overdrafts so no problem. They have nifty machines for paying in cash and cheques that issues reciepts, Natwest were still in the 70's with put your money in an envelope.

I have no problem with online banking either....whats so bad?

That's because they, like almost all banks, are desperately trying to repair their balance sheets as the value of their assets (e.g. property, European sovereign bonds) falls.

This is why the US and UK (amongst other countries) are running near-zero interest rates - to increase the profit margins so that banks can slowly build up their reserves.

I bank with Halifax, paying in my salary, which I immediately transfer to the Co-Operative Bank (a less evil bank, but admittedly far from perfect), pocketing the £5 Halifax give me in exchange for a zero bank balance.

i looked into this and they cant offer me the same interest free overdraft and want all my debits to be moved over.

Which would $%$% me financially...

I switched to Halifax last month, mainly so I could get a Halifax Clarity card without any issues and pocket the £100 bonus. As for telephone banking, I use their geographic number (01132 422229) so my calls are covered by inclusive mobile phone minutes. I have personally found the UK-based customer service reps at Halifax to be as good as the ones at First Direct. Both much better than the Indian call centre that Barclaycard uses. :(

With my new Halifax account, I now have three current accounts. One with Lloyds TSB, one with First Direct and now one with Halifax.

Halifax Reward Account gives me £5 /mo. for paying in £1000.

Lloyds TSB Silver account gives me European travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, Sentinel card protection and AA Breakdown for £9.95 /mo. I will upgrade to Gold for free for a few months so it gives me worldwide insurance for when I go to the 'States in April.

First Direct Current Account gives me the ability to keep my 8% Regular Saver savings account open and fed, which ironically is the thing keeping my FD Current Account free.

I switched to halifax, all went fantastic.

I've got an overdraft and you pay NOTHING if you use your planned overdraft. You only pay if you go over your overdraft.

For example I have 300quid over draft and don't pay ANYTHING if I use it. Anything over that increase a fee.

FYI these accounts (not restricted to 1) earn you £5pcm interest even if you just cycle £1k through them for a few mins then out again.

;)

Yep, did the same. Got the £100, get the £5 for paying my salary in, got the clarity card that gets me £5 for every £300 spent and no fees abroad. Better than my previous bog standard Barclays one. Think the DD changeover only messed one out of eight payments but it got rectified in the end. So far so good. No complaints.

That's not the case for me???? I pay £1 a day I'm in my overdraft.

Are you sure it's an ULTIMATE reward account you have because I pay nothing for my £300 arranged overdraft?

Correct, the planned overdraft in said account is free.

Online its a bit badly designed. Not possible to see how much you owe on your previous credit card statement. Besides that its perfectly fine
Though the web interface isnt as slick as natwest/rbs

Yep - this is what I do. I leave in £200 or so though, as the Halifax Reward account is my account used to pay for food & petrol :)
