Slippery slope, this scheme should in theory have everyone working in a few years but lets face it that's not going to happen due to that most of the jobs in this country are temp or part time.

My thoughts exactly.

But I do think it's sickening how little we pay so many in society - so with a reasonable increase in the wage for the lowest earners that system would at least be acceptable.

do you include foxconn workers? or all the farmers and poor people who make our shiny goods and grow our cheap food...

people on benefits can buy Iphones, laptops big TV's you know people MUCH worse off than them make these devices and grow a majority of their food...

should we pay these poor people a proper wage you can wave good buy to your way of life....

I went on this Scheme 2 years ago; It was called Future Job Fund back then. Manage to get a placement that was for 10 months. You got paid £150 a week and basically did 25-30 hours a week. It's not much, but its better than saying no and getting £200 a month. I must have been lucky because I got taken on full time and been here since :) More hours and better wage mind you :p

True,

What's needed is more decently paid full time secure jobs, not part time/temp jobs which come & go.

If these companies want cheap labour then they should make up the wage themselves to provide that you at least come out with the minimum wage at the end of the week, afterall you are putting in a full weeks work.

With the Goverment paying a third of the wage via JSA they are still quids in.

Who said I wouldn't like them to have a greater share in the reward of society.

But we could redistribute the 97% of the wealth which resides in the top 3% of the population in this country without changing anything external.

The simple fact is that the poorest in the UK only hold a tiny portion of the wealth & assets, increasing that slightly (if the hit was taken at the top to offset this) would not destabilise our economy, or really change anything - it might just reduce the excesses of wealth at the top my a small amount.

It's not a choice between exploiting the 3rd world & poverty for all - that's a fallacy of false choices.

Besides - you are preaching to the wrong person, I don't even agree with the basic fundamentals of free market capitalism (for the very reason it relies on exploitation to work) - let alone the details.

I'm currently on about 4 months into JSA.
Having finished College with a Level 3 I.T Practitioners BTEC.
Not wanting to go to Uni to face possible problems in the future with employment being in the same situation, I opted to try for a job now to hopefully be in a stronger position than I would have been straight out of Uni.

My GCSE's were good, I had 3 A's and 8 B's.

I'm finding it nigh on impossible to find a job, employers either want ridiculously high expectations, or you're up against another 100 people, usually older and more experienced.

Within about the second month of JSA, they've signed me up for a work experience role within themselves at another location (I was put up against other people, and won, so it's not like my CV is terrible etc)

Where's this job shop that people think I can walk out with a job instantly?

My girlfriend has been unemployed for 4 weeks! 4 weeks. She has A levels and is not at all thick. The job centre is basically forcing her to work for 2 Months for FREE at a store called "The Works" which looks like a ***** version of Waterstones, for a chance of a job at the end of 2 months against 10 other people! Yes 10!

And they don't even want her to only do a couple of days work experience a week, no, it's 5 days a week ,starting at 6 am until 5, what the heck, have we actually reached an accurate meaning of corporate slavery? Do British companies have no shame? This is not even cheap labour, this is FREE labour, 10 people full time an offering one of them a chance to get a crappy minimum bleeping wage job?

I'm all for getting people back into work but this is retarded, before anyone here says "it's my taxes", no guess what, she gets £200 a month, for the next 2 months while she's working full time like a mule (certainly more then what I and most people here work), I'm still going to be the one supporting her because £200 nowadays is **** all.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm just so angry right now. I would understand a couple of weeks work experience, but forcing someone to work 2 months for free, full time, 6am shifts for a "1/10" chance at a job, is just too much.
Don't they only put long-term unemployed people in those schemes?

Tried temping agencies Martini? Go into them all with your CV (though a lot will just tell you to e-mail them), looking smart and keen. Phone them up every day, at the very least. Providing you can type fast and accurately and know your way around the basic Office package you'll probably find an admin job quite quickly.

I've been applying for a few admin jobs that I've seen, but to no avail.
It's actually quite depressing.
I don't know of any of this temping agencies, the jobcentre is less than helpful.
I assume pertemps if one of them?

If I had some money behind me, there's a very nice building that just been built to let, I'd simply open an I.T store as the 3 we've currently gone in town are horrible. But that's a pipe dream thing I suppose :p

This is what it should be aimed at, going from the longest on the dole.

What use is it giving someone "work experience" in a book store that has been on JSA for 6 months after losing a job compared to someone thats been on JSA for 5 years and NEEDS a kick up the backside and the skills to be able to work with people and get into a routine, its madness.

new shop lots of expence = bancrupt...

order 20k leaflets from vistaprint post them, instant home business....

£600 leaflets, £300 on spares and some comfortable traininers to walk and post in...

I'll accept a payment when you are making lots of money...

Pertemps, Office Angels, Reed are national. There'll be some local ones to you though. Just phone them up, tell them what you're looking for and offer to come in to do any tests and a chat. Then phone them regularly (daily) and you should get something.

I used to work in an agency (admin side, though did deal with some jobseekers) and we generally gave work to the people that we remembered for some reason - that reason was usually because they bugged the recruiters so much!

Good luck, I appreciate it is a hard time to find a job but you have to be very proactive about it. I got very fed up with my girlfriend, as after telling her the above she'd just say "but I don't want to bother them." Keenness is important!

just use yell, find the temping agencies. print a map out with all on. Dress up take a bunch of CVs, take things like ID and reference details. then go round to them all. then as Ahleckz says. Don't leave it at that phone them up and get your CV to the top of the pile again on a regular basis. Don't just hand CV to them and forget about it. They'll have loads of people on their books and you need to make sure your remembered when jobs come up.
Look through job centre website and apply for anything, remember to target your CV by changing it around adding/removing stuff as easy. local jobs paper is good as well. as well as the internetl.

Completely agree with this.

I'll give a shot thanks.

On the subject of people being made to "earn" their JSA.
The only time I think that's fair is that they work minimum wage for their JSA amount, so, enough hours at minimum wage for 106 a fortnight.

that's just giving people a job and helps no one. If you were earning minimum wage, why apply for a minimum wage job.

and having a decent CV makes a huge difference, either post on here, or pay to get it looked at.
the difference in interview ratio between my CV and a paid one was night and day. shame I still cant do interviews.
