My cat's been beat up (again)

Screw the water pistol, invest in a super soaker, the pressurized kind which shift gallons per minute.

Wait until he's in a corner somewhere, and unload on it.

Yep, tried a super soaker. Trouble is that he sneaks into the conservatory and even my best ninja style moves don't seem to be quick enough to get more than a couple of shots off at his back end dissapearing out the cat flap.

I have thought about using some other liquid in the super soaker........

I've also looked into changing the staywell cat flap for something better but I used staywell plastic tunnel to go through the wall in the conservatory brickwork so i'm limited on options (and on funds).

oc uk moustache guys please stop trolling him and provide proper responses you are like kids yet you have moustaches

if that was your cat how would you feel huh? if it was my cat and you made a joke about my cat ...

Could try trapping in the other cat and take to vets to get scanned to track down the owner, if it is indeed owned if not ask vet what you could do

I hear a couple of cats fighting in a big tree out my back door every so often, bloody loud so they are!

Our female cat gets involved with other male cats that want to pump her. She doesn't want anything to do with it so knocks **** out of them.

Tell Carrot to MTFU!

Eh? No mousetaches here

On topic, cats fight. Would you exclude your child from school if they got into a scuffle with another child?

I think he's starting to fight back which is why he's coming back in with injuries from this one other cat. There's no way he can win against this other cat as it's quite a lot bigger than him.

Going to get him cleaned up tomorrow anyway

Because the law is different where a dog is concerned - sigh, read the act and rest your hands for a a few. :-)

I keep reading it, but fail to see where it mentions anything with regards to capturing an animal in your house and handing it over to the authorities being stealing? Would you be a love and quote the part you are refering to? :)

Cant find anything in there differentiating between dogs and cats either :( only that “animal” means a vertebrate other than man. From there on it just referes to 'animals'

Please point these things out, I just cant find what you are talking about, at all!

OP, the problem is the other chap still has his balls. Your cat, fine fellow he may be, does not.
Not much you can do to stop him being the other cats bitch, I'm afraid.

If yours is going to be an inside/outside cat, then you can only help him out with his territory (indoors) and prevent the walking gonads from trespassing.
If nothing else, you might mitigate feeding two cats where only one is invited.

Try one of those magnetic key cat flaps, and be prepared for your cat to experience a 'learning curve'... he learns to scratch the door until you let him in. :p

Unfortunately cats are uncontrollable when they're let outside and left to their own devices. Getting into fights is just what they do, and like your cat leaving massive dumps in your neighbours gardens, which I'm sure they object to, there's nothing you can do about this other cat fighting with yours.

get a van, a couple of bricks and some tissues. Catch the little ******, chuck him in the back of the van and smash his goolies in, wipe up blood and return to owner. Solved. If not find the cats owner tell them to sort it out or its bricking time.

Wait for it to come through the catflap and wait with a shovel?

Catch it and shave it?

I commend you for reading that page; however, there is more if you followed up on the law. Here are some slices from relevant law...

Under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 it is a criminal offence to be cruel to any animal. This includes beat, ill-treat, torture, infuriate or terrify any animal.

It is a criminal offence under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to administer poison, injurious drugs or substances to an animal.

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2005 it is a criminal offence to allow an animal protected by the act to suffer unnecessarily.

The law relating to the trespass of domestic animals is in the Animals Act 1971. Cats are unique in as much as the Animals Act 1971 does not apply to them. A cat cannot trespass. As a cat cannot trespass its owner cannot be legally responsible for what their cat does outside of their property.

The law treats a cat as goods. Taking a cat without permission will amount to theft.

To deter unwanted cats from your property things like prickly plants such as Holly, perfumed flowers or herbs such as orange, peppermint and eucalyptus as well as using electronic deterrents designed to keep cats away from a specific area can be used.

Don't take your cat to the vet, he will be fine with out antibiotics.

As for getting beaten up, he'll learn to either be better or run away.

KaHn

this.

whilst it is a shame it is also part of being a cat. fighting over territory is what they do best. even once neutered. they soon learn to just run or to stay in certain areas . if he's sticking around for a fight (and at that size) he's probably done his fair share of the beating to other cats too :p

vets are con artists at things like this though. how do people think cats/animals in the wild survive. he will clean any wounds himself. id only bother with things like antibiotics if its obviously infected or it isn't healing over. they always do though !

edit- oh this cat is coming inside. we've had this and just chased them till they got the message. perfect excuse to buy a super soaker or a hi tech cat flap

A cat of mine was shot with an airgun - the pellet went in one side and out the other. Our vet, who was honest, checked her for internal bleeding and then stitched up the wounds. He didn't try to sell us any medication and said only to come back if the wounds became infected or the cat was obviously dying ().

An animal can take a few scratches. If the cat hasn't cleaned the dry blood out of its coat by tomorrow morning, give it a light scrub with a damp cloth and leave it alone.

As for the other cat getting into the house, have you considered controlling when your cat comes and goes by locking the cat flap? I put food out for mine twice a day, so she will normally eat immediately, and then kick her out for an hour or two. When she wants back in, she'll start yapping at the door. It's not ideal, but the cat will get used to it and you can keep a litterbox handy in case you have to leave for several hours but want the cat to stay inside.

Excellent, thank you. :)

So. If the OP tries to find out who the cat belongs to, and fails. He can catch the cat in his home (as long as he does not mistreat it in the process) phone the RSPCA and hand it over to them.

He wont have broken any law in the process and all will be well, correct?

Interesting to know that a cat can go and do as it pleases without the owners being responsible. That pretty much suits a cat down to the ground! :D

Edit: I'm presuming the OP wont want to do things that deter cats as it might upset his own cat?

:D cats are tough ! And yea I shouldn't label all vets like that. I've had decent ones too but the last few have tried to sell us tablets , food or operations for everything .One even accused us of being awful because our cat had bad breath (after she had just fed him cat food)and offered to clean his teeth for a fee. "he's gone 20 years cleaning his own teeth so I think he will manage , bye!"
