7770

Prices are always related to supply and demand AMD are just charging what they think they can get away with given the (rumoured) current low yields on the 28nm process and the lack of competition.

The 7770 is a good card but it's hard to recommend it as a purchase atm due to it's high price once it comes down to around £100 it will look a lot better. Also remember if they had decided to use the same power envelope as the 5770 it would be around 40-50% faster which is not a bad improvement at all imho.

I don't think its that big a deal - everyone's going nuts over £20. Which IMO isn't enough money to stop someone buying something they want.

I've got one coming today for 107 inc VAT - they will be sub £100 in a few weeks, and sub £70 in a few months (7 series tooling can dump more cards into the channel than we can buy anyway - will just take a couple of extra months).

EDIT: Its arrived :D

The HD 7770 isn't a bad card at all, it's just priced way to high, it should be £80 - £90 at most imho.

The 7950/7970's are priced fine agaisnt Nvidia's cards at most retailers ;) similar price to the Nvidia cards but higher performance and newer technology.

The Green Troll needs to get some new cards out so things can start getting competitive again, it's a shame Nvidia are so far behind...........

Agree with this. At the minute the 6850 is the best buy for £90. When stock has run out I wouldn't be surprised to see a little price drop on the 7770s. At around £90 it too becomes a reasonable buy.

The point here is a lot of people buy with a budget in mind and want the fastest for their cash. In this case a 6850 makes the most sense.

a little reminder from history:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2009/10/13/amd-ati-radeon-hd-5770-review/1

the 5770 was launched at £120.....

take a guess what the launch price of the 6770 was :D

Yes. And it offered DX11 and was FAR cooler than previous gen cards with less power draw (even though the latter counts for diddly squat).

It also offered (for the first time) Eyefinity and so on.

Do you see?

The 7770 offers hardly anything over previous gen cards. Thus, it's a rip off.

Lulz, and also this from your review.

While there's nothing in particular wrong with the 5770, it just doesn't do enough to stand out and we're left feeling disappointed with what AMD has delivered at this price point

It's Groundhog Day.

its 20% faster than the card is replacing (if you discount the EOL 6850 which are being sold off) - you can bet the 7850 will be ab awefully lot more than £90

And it's slower than lots of other cards that cost the same.

It's slower than a 6850. It's a fair slice slower than a 6870. That's without bringing Nvidia into this. The GTX 460 is faster and so is the GTX 560 non ti.

That means it competes against, and loses against, FOUR CARDS.

But..but...it offer amazing saving of a few quids a year on energy cost with slower than 6850 speed to complement it! And as a bonus we get to spend more money on it than 6850 as well! How is that not a great deal :D

Oh right...because 6850 and GTX460 are gonna disappeared from the face of the earth within the next 24 hours like dave is trying to suggest :D I guess it must be the deal of the century then! :p

the GTX 460 is GONE - its EOL and not being made , in fact you would be hard pressed to find one thats not an `SE`.

as was said above - you wont be able to buy a 6850/6870 in 4 months time anyway

time to cherry pick reviews:

thats the 7770 beating the GTX 560......

Lol, what are you going to derp about when the 7850/7870 come out? "Oh my, they're not as fast as the 6950/6970"?

5770>6770>7770

Simple, forget pricing, that's down to AIB's and Etailers, not the enthusiast who can bag a bargain last gen card that's probably almost sold out on pre orders.
Folks derped when the 6870 was released saying things like "oh, its not as fast as a 5870", but they sold and still sell like AK47's to the durka durka

But they were 180 odd quid (I know this as I bought two on launch) and beat the 5850 stock versus stock at the sameish price point.
