7770

awesome since the 6870 launched nearly a year earlier and where £200+ on launch day... so nice that you got one at 120

I paid 180 on launch day for my two.
They were available for 174.99 too ; Sapphire 6870 reference models.
It's called shopping around.

I guess 2 7770's wouldn't be any good for BF3 at ultra due to the 1GB limitation? It sucks because the 6850's/6870's would be good, it's just that 1GB again :( Plus I don't want to spend for than £200..

I found 6870 Crossfire to cane BF3 at 1080p by turning off ambient occlusion.
Though, you could get a second hand 6970 at that price point for that 2GB VRAM.

Lol, what are you going to derp about when the 7850/7870 come out? "Oh my, they're not as fast as the 6950/6970"?

Depends really doesn't it? like, if they're fail like the 7770. It also depends what they cost. However I can see them costing 6950 and 6970 money (IE £2-300 pounds) so yes, they had better be a bloody good chunk faster. Price won't matter as long as the performance is right.

5770>6770>7770

I agree. However, sadly there are other products on the market that kind of step into your idealistic world, trample all over the flowers and pee on the roses. You know? in reality.

Products like the 6850 and 6870 and GTX 560. Infact, the double D XFX version of the 7770 is selling for the same price as a GTX 560 ti.

Why on earth you seem incapable of any reason or logic on this matter confuses me. You seem incapable of seeing anything past your nose and just want to bang on reiterating the same rubbish over and over.

5770>6770>7770 - of course. That's how they have based their roadmap on going from one technology to the other (barring the cheating middle one, mind). However, there is far more to it than that as you know.

So whilst their roadmap makes sense their prices don't. Nor does the performance.

Simple, forget pricing, that's down to AIB's and Etailers, not the enthusiast who can bag a bargain last gen card that's probably almost sold out on pre orders.
Folks derped when the 6870 was released saying things like "oh, its not as fast as a 5870", but they sold and still sell like AK47's to the durka durka

The pricing is down to AMD at the end of the day. They set their RRP, then they expect retailers to abide by it. So what you are saying is it's the retailers' fault that the 7770 is not fast enough and too expensive?

I see.

As for the 6870? no it wasn't as fast as the 5870. However, some one at AMD needed a telling off for putting out confusing names. You see, when you take the following logic -

5870
6870

You see it like this ; new card, new core technology, replacement part for previous product with same last three digits, faster and better than the previous gen.

It would be akin to Nvidia releasing a 680 that's slower than a 580.

still doesnt change the fact that the 7770 is released at the same price the 5770 and 6770 was ....

odds on the 7870 will be £200 on launch

odds on the 7870 will be £200 on launch

Yep, and will be considerably faster than the 6870 it's replacing, however, the usual derpers will derp.

Nvidia can release the 580 1.5gb for about £450 and no one bats an eyelid, it's just AMD haters, erm hating (and Martin and Alex :p)

7870 at 200 quid wouldn't bother me in the slightest, I'd be fine with that if it offered 6950 besting performance.
But a 130 pound variation between the 7980 and 7950 seems unlikely.

Only a luddite would think that a 7870 will better 6950 performance, it will trade blows like in improved tessellation etc, but it's not meant to be exceeding it. The 6950 is EOL also, and will become scarce at etailers.

Then what's the point of it at 200 quid?
6950's could be had for 180 on launch day.

You don't seem to understand price/performance at all.

Lol 6950's for £180 on release day? What planet was that on, they were £240
You don't seem to understand anything :p

Oh dear.
Even here on launch day they were available at 213 quid, within a few days they had an offer at 199 here.
I know there was special offers elsewhere too at 180.

Then the unlocking was up etc.

TBH,I think the HD7870 will at least match the HD6950.

Why?? Because,if we put price to one side(yes this is important too),the HD7770 still outperforms the HD5770/HD6770 and the HD7970 still ouperforms the HD6970.

TPU puts the HD6950 2GB as being 10% to 15% faster than an HD6870 1GB:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6950/29.html

So,even with the same level of performance improvement seen with the HD7770 over the HD5770/HD6770,the HD7870 should be at least the same performance level as an HD6950 2GB.

So you've gone from 180 to 213? Lol, no worries, long day is long in Martinville :p

Anyway, just posted this on the other forum wrt the 7770

It's only fail in the eyes of those who don't know anything about what they're looking at.

Stop your twisted reasoning and keep using arguement that sounds like coming from a 5 years old and keep calling people "AMD haters" (both Martin and Alex uses AMD cards if I'm not mistaken). GTX580 charged a premium on launch because it was the undisputed single GPU king back then, while the GTX560Ti/GTX570 were generally lower than/around same price than the counterparts 6950/6970. So 7970 aside, what is AMD charging premium such as 7770 for? Worse performance than 6850? 128bit Memory Interface instead of 256bit?
