Any news on the next gen?

I've been a pretty strong 360 supporter this gen but if the next one has gimmicks like a built in kinnect or screen in the controller I'll jump ship pretty fast. At then end of the day all I want out of a games console is a games console, certainly not jumping up and down after a hard day at work.

Your not exactly forced to play Kinect games. Most of them are sub standard tbh.

Agree about the controller though :)

Yeah but if it was built in A) I'd be paying for it. B) Companants inside would be compromised (as a really high price tag is unlikely) and C) games on the console would have divided loyaltys with regards to game design.

If the new Xbox is sticking with IBM/AMD hopefully this means full backwards compatibility, so maybe games like skyrim will be able to take advantage of the higher specs and more RAM to play with etc. imagine having stuff like the high resolution texture pack released as dlc or dx11 upgrades!

I own a gaming PC (with a 360 pad and an HDMI lead to the TV) and a PS3, so I have no need for a 360, but....
The 360 will be 7 years old this Autumn and even if it had been £500 at launch it still makes it fantastic value for money.

Even if the new consoles are £500 each then they will be cheap compared to a gaming PC, especially if the next gen last a long time too.
I am a PC gamer at heart and whilst the current consoles are old tech now, I do think that more and more people will leave PC gaming to go to consoles as the games just work.

I look forward to hearing about the next PS3 and Xbox. Not bothered about the new Wii though. I had a go on the Vita a few weeks ago when I was in Detroit and my God are they good!

Once the specs are set for a console they don't get upgraded.

Example - with the S version of the 360 Microsoft combined the originally separate CPU, GPU and eDRAM onto a single chip and left the architecture and specs exactly as it was.

Also they will include Blu ray as they are aiming for the all in one entertainment box under your tv. I hope they expand the marketplace to download all games released so you have the option to buy physical media or my preference for digital downloads, maybe with a reduced price to help push the trend or some extra content

has ms said they will include the bluray ?? i wouldnt bet either way till there in the shops to be honest.

as i wouldnt be surprised if they tried to go without it and have some sort of market place for films/games/music all in one, thing the apple store but with ms branding.

but like iv said if they did i can see it being a console breaker as some people just cant download 20+ gig games every month.

will be interesting to see if they finaly swollow there pride and buy bluray.

It will have bluray, Would be a stupid move not to. They wont try another media type, and download only just isnt supportable on the current broadband infrastructure. Too many limitations put in place by providers.

There's already a massive market now in Bluray movies, plus the physical media aspect for games.

It's pretty much guaranteed.

It was nothing to do with pride, when the X360 came out it was before BD really was an accepted format and even their HD DVD drive came out after the console was launched.

As I said in an earlier post theres very little reason not to have a physical drive and I cant see it not having BD unless they arent trying to make it an entertainment hub like the PS3 is. The only interesting caveat could be a HD DVD/proprietary drive just used for games, while media is download only...

ps3ud0

when the 360 came it out it was down to economics, dvd was a lot cheaper, simple as that.

but now its more pride than anything stopping them using bluray, various ms execs have said they will never use it at various shows. so for them to suddenly ship the 720 with it will be ahard thing to swollow. hell i wouldnt be surprised if they started to use usb mem sticks for the price of them built in save game areas and able to patch them on the stick.

then they get a streaming service and away they go. but again its down to costs and what they think they can get away with.

I'm sorry but I don't get why pride would stand in the way of Bluray? Fair enough Sony has it in their console, and they're 1 of the companies in Blu-ray disc Association. Along with God knows how many other companies. But it's a lot more likely Microsoft will just join the association.

It would cost them a lot to not impliment it due to pride. =\ Seems unlikely to be honest.

Do you have any links to where MS has said outright they wont touch bluray? And I dont mean with regards to the 360. I've seen that said plenty of times.

Lol, no.

100-200GB for $2 each or 16GB for $5?

I repeat: Lol, no.

1st link is about the 360. As said, we all know MS said it wouldnt come to 360.

As for the other link, saying that it'll all be streaming\downloading and that's why Bluray wont be used.

Well if that does happen. England will be screwed.

What happens when you want to download a game? What if you want 2\3 games? All of which are 10GB\20GB+ in size?

We dont have the capabilities here to support it. Sky and Virgin media offer the best broadbands in this country.

Both would have a heart attack if Joe public started download multiple 10GB\20GB files daily, They have a hard enough time dealing with us more technically minded using Torrents\Newgroups. When everyone who owns a console starts downloading massive files.... I cant imagine what they would do.

on the bluray drive shinanigans http://majornelson.com/2009/10/22/we-have-no-plans-for-blu-ray-on-xbox-360/

and seems streaming is the way there heading. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/238341/microsoft-xbox-doesnt-need-blu-ray/

and kreeee who cares what the cost is, the consumer will get to pay for it :P dont you remember the £50 megadrive and snes games :D
Im confused, have you really taken their strategy how they defended the 360 not having BD using 2 year old comments, as their stance on all future products?

The next xbox will definitely have blu-ray. Disk is still by far the cheapest storage medium and blu-ray is the only mass market disk big enough for next-gen games.

im just going off whats been said, but like i said i wouldnt be surprised if it didnt come with it.

im not saying its going either way, but that i wouldnt be surprised if they launched it without the bluray. hell they could install hd-dvd drives as im sure they have a few spare :p

Is there any great need for a next gen console? Whats the panic? I say this because I'm very impressed by the graphics quality og the games I've played on the PS3!

The next Xbox is rumoured to have a 6670 or equivalent when it's released. Probably been posted in this thread but I didn't look.
