So you got your first car, how long did it take you to change it? - Did you change it because you were fed up and wanted something newer? Something quicker? Did you damage it and want to get rid of it quick?

So how long did the first car you had last?

For me, I am still on my first car, only been driving over 6 months now, no plans to get rid of it yet, will get at least another year and 6 more months out of it before I think about changing it. :)

Nova 1.4SR, about 3.5 years and it had some Courtney Sport upgrades during its stay, such as Suspension/brakes and the usual K+N and exhaust+manifold.

13 months so far. I dont plan on replacing the golf till i can insure something interesting for a reasonable amount of money.

There's nothing that will cost the earth to fix, even if the engine goes bang there's plenty of them going for peanuts and its only a days spannering.

My first car was a Ford Focus which I owned for nearly a year. I replaced it as I was bored with it after 4 months and wanted a fun convertible like an S2000, so bought a VX220 as I couldn't insure the S2K.

A Supersonic Blue 1.4 Civic Illusion EJ9.

Awesome first car! Had it 2 years. Wish I kept it but had no space for it.

Why did you do that?

I was 17 and flush with money staying at home making a good wage £20 a week to my Ma in dig money on a Thursday and then tapping £50 off her on. Friday :) at one point I had 4 xr2s at the same time :) and at 19 a cossie an rst and an xr2i.

Then I met the now wife got a house the. A few years after that kids
Kids if your reading this stay at home with the rents and turn gay

Diesel Zs - it lasted about a month and a half before a tree jumped out round a greasy corner and wrote it off.

Lesson learnt the hard way with that one, though to be fair it's probably the reason why I never wrapped some far more powerful stuff since! Amazing how getting it so wrong once can help get it right the rest of the time

Four years. During which time I was in 6th form for one year and university for another three, so spending money on changing car would have been silly, and my parents were paying insurance so I'm not sure that they would have paid insurance on something which was a higher IG than what I had.

After those years I started postgraduate study (paid), I was going to sell Patricia and get a new car, but decided instead to skip the latter part of that statement because I am in Oxford... which isn't particularly car friendly... so I am just saving the money :)

First car....blimey, it was just so long ago.
Right, what I do know is:

1980 Mk.1 VW Golf 1.1 3dr in Mars Red No.2

It was purchased soon after my 17th birthday, I passed my test in the February as I turned 17 in the previous November.
So this would have been March 1993. If I remember correctly I drove it around for almost 2yrs before purchasing a 1989 Mk.2 VW Golf 1.3 5dr.

Renault Fuego 2.0 TX. Fwd 2 door coupe with 110bhp. Gold.

Lasted 4 months before stuffing it into a tree at 50mph, avoiding a woman who had stopped in the middle of a singletrack country lane, to have a dig through her handbag.

She was parked near the crest of the hill, I was at the bottom and didn't see her until I reached the crest. Had I anticipated this (I was 17 and had been driving 4 months) and driven accordingly, the Fuego would have survived. I had a split second to chose between hitting her or a tree. Probably the worst thing you can hit, a rooted, stationary object.

I replaced this with a stunning mk2 XR2, so it wasn't all bad.

Brand new 1.2 Corsa my parents bought me, 6 months in I hated it, my mum sold her Micra and took it, I purchased a Fiesta Zetec S which owned.
