T-Mobile Full Monty (unlimited etherything)

At that price you're profit generating unless you eat data like a fat kid who loves cake. SIM free is cheaper as long as you don't keep up with premium handsets otherwise the cheapest way to have a new handset each year is to take 24month deals, sell handset at month 12 - buy new one with proceeds + top up, sell at month 24 - get new 2year contract with new handset - cycle kicks in.

What he said ^^
I have always found contract cheaper overall, but only when after latest handsets (which I usually have been). Now, with a recent handset change I have the 'new phone' vibe, albeit not massively different in power/specs to it predecessor, and this affords me the ability to hand on until MWC output starts to hit retail and I may well then switch. This could be back into contract, or Sim-free/Sim-only combo, but I now have the power to choose :)
Bottom line, I guess that there are always times when one route is better than another - I have historically used a contract as an interest-free handset purchase mainly :)
With that in mind, I think this Full Monty from TMobile and One from 3 are excellent choices for latest handsets....interesting to see what price point they will hit for things like Xperia S, SGS3 and so on, mind....

I just tried tethering on my new sim this morning, and my speeds were abysmal - 0.12-0.4 mbps, while I was getting 700-900 kbps on the handset itself (using my new sim in my X10 mini pro until the Lumia 800 gets tethering support, or a tethering app).

I spent about 90 minutes calling technical support a few times and finally got through to someone who managed to find out that there was a 64 kbps data cap on my account!

I'm not sure how I managed to get fast speeds on the handset itself before, but my tethering was always a hit or miss kind of thing, my sim card is being updated with the data cap removed and could take up to 24 hours, but hopefully after that I shouldnt have anymore problems.

This was a brand new micro sim too for the full monty price plan, and they found a data cap on it, likely the same as what I had before but instead of speaking to technical support, I always spoke to normal customer service for account queries and they were clueless about it all the time :x

You have to call 150 > 4 > 2 > 2 I believe to get through to mobile broadband support, explain your problem to the first person that answers, and then hold for ages while you get connected to someone with a bit more brainpower on the mobile broadband tech support team. Its annoying and takes a while, but can be done.

Yikes ! 64kbps ?! Did the phone make 'old-skool' modem noises whilst connecting also :p
Well, there is a valuable point in all that, though, that even the new FM plan appears to quite likely be capped.....let's just hope not @ 64kbps for all !

just noticed t-mobiles deal of the week
iPhone 4s 16gb £99 upfront then £36 on The Full Monty
not a bad deal really in comparison to the other networks!

I dont think its a restriction on new FM plans, my contract had gimped tethering speeds for a long time which were probably there since I first joined T Mobile.

Can't beat Giffgaff

Fully unlimited tethering beats a rubbish 3 Gb allowance. Giffgaff are over rated and rubbish compared to the One Plan, Full Monty, and even the previous Web n Walk options T mobile used to have.

Plus Giffgaff runs on the O2 network which is the worst you can pick for 3G.

Ok, so my sim card was working again this morning and got 0.98 Mbps on speedtest, which isnt too bad.

I've been connected to DDO all day with flawless lag free gameplay, and no problems at all :)

When it works, its like this (tethered speeds):

Rather lovely.

I'd wholesomely disagree with your last comment, o2 are excellent down here in my part of London for 3G that includes GiffGaff compared to Three which is noticeably slower. I've done the tests and GG in my area beats Three any day of the week for data.

Again it's all area dependent most times.

I'm now also getting over 3Mbps download but am only (at the moment) getting around 0.4Mbps upload although that I don't so much mind.

Is nice to get the doubling in download speed (near enough) from 1.88Mbps I used to get :)

Is this anything to do with the 3G merge of Orange and T-Mobiles networks?

All networks have good coverage in London.

O2 and Vodaphone have the worst overall 3G coverage in the UK. T mobile are third after 3 and Orange.
