Followed by police but not pulled over

I can honestly say that I have never seen this. Speed, location and status of blue lights is constantly logged and periodically monitored by Sgts etc, in Hants anyway.

I can vouch for this. The blue light button is logged every time its used. There are systems in place to reduce abusing the on board 999 emergency system. Altho, it does happen time to time. These are few and far between in my area.

You'd be amazed what systems are in some forces, the average boys and girls in blue will know nothing about them.

Also, Misscheif's post doesn't actually show them doing anything wrong.

So is our works internet access which is apparentrly provided purely for work related business.

Yet here I am on the OcUK forums which are most definitely not.

Who exactly watches the watchers over stuff like this ?

Nobody is the answer, which is why its not uncommon to see some officers abusing their blue lights for reasons other than an emergency.

I imagine checking if you spend all your working day on ASOS is a little different to monitoring activity of Police cars!

I think it's clear my suspicion was that he did it purely because he didn't want to wait in traffic but wasn't actually on a call to anywhere. It happened more than once as I was travelling the same way as the police car and he wasn't driving fast as if he was on a call.

agreed

but the point i was making is it still requires somebody to actively monitor it and take action when officers abuse it.

Just because its supposed to be monitored doesn't mean every superior will do it. Every job has its good apples and its bad apples, and to say something that is only checked by humans can't happen is mis leading.

It will be monitored automatically and not by a person as such, like everything reports will be generated for abnormal use and given how well connected the cars/officers are to the control room everything is recorded 24/7 - the systems will log when someone is on a call, has blues on, speeds - everything.

However you don't need to be on a emergency shout to use blues, making progress through traffic for a policing reason is fine. Police also don't have to have blues on to go above a speed limit - many will say having blues on all the time is a distraction so will use them at junctions/lights/roundabouts only but of course on a full emergency shout they may use them all the time.

In other news, I was followed on the A34 near Stafford last night in my e39, they must have followed me for a good 3 miles before pulling past.

I think the term used for this is "flowing with traffic" :p;)

lol?

Often the will be on a call that doesn't require lights and siren on 100% of the time and use them where appropriate due to build up of traffic to enable them to pass it quickly without needing to speed. It really is quite simple, it is very unlikely they were abusing their power.

Back on topic. Joined the A30 last night, saw a police car at the end of the slipway parked on the grass, likely waiting for speeders rounder a corner, so joined the road at a nice healthy 75-80. :D

Most Police I see only use sirens at junctions, roundabouts, traffic lights & the like, switching them on & off as required.

Probably something to do with noise regulations I'd imagine. I can see how this gives others the wrong impression though.

I saw something similar to this before... A police car, sirens on, overtook everything, flew up the high street and then... stopped outside the local bakery! I just laughed (was a pedestrian at the time)

Isn't this well known internet story normally KFC?
