Does that sound about right? I keep thinking to myself this is expensive as to what I actually have.

I have 50mb, which is being upgraded to 120mb which I don't really need? I am sure I could cope with 30mb, and I am paying £38.90 a month.

Is it easy to down grade to maybe 30mb with the free upgrade to 50mb? Or how would it work if I wanted to reduce the costs and save some money? How much do you pay with Virgin? :)

I have noticed it is a bit cheaper when you look on their website now.

I guess I am stuck in a contract with them so I couldn't downgrade?

im on 30mb,n pay £26 i think need to check, but they have told me they are doubling my speeds to 60mb so i would downgrade if i were you

you can switch/downgrade your broadband if youve been with them for the length of the contract

I am unsure what length or how long I have or if I have gone past the contact stage. Not entirely sure how it works to be honest. Is there an easy way to find out?

If it's over a year since you got it in you're likely in a 30 day rolling contract now. Speak to retentions and tell them you are in the market for a new provider, they might offer a discount

if your contract period has expired phone and cancel they will offer you a reasonable deal
but if you say you want to cancel and leave it at that they will phone you daily (work hours) to get you to resign and offer you a very good deal
they worst that can happen is that you phone up and say you have changed your mind and want to stay

contact VM and ask how long you've had the 50Mb service then if its 12-18+months just tell them u want to downgrade

my friend tryed that, it didn't work

so i wouldn't recommend doing that but if your lucky to get a offer then it would be great

Do you think I could keep at 50mb, speak with cancellations and see if I can get it cheaper?

Yes, phone up and complain that they promised the upgrades would be free, you've had a letter and prices are going up. So say you wish to cancel and ask to be put through to cancellations whos job it is to keep you as a customer.

Don't be afraid to push hard for a decent discount.

You'll have a "great" experience trying to pull that off if they put you through to the indian Op's. Mind you, they always credit your account if you ask. :D
