ANOTHER shooting at a US school

Are there that many school shootings? Have you actually compared the stats from North America and Europe, or whatever?

Indeed, the US has around 6 times the UK population so youwill expect 6x the number of shootings purely by the odds. Then quite obviously the easier access to firearms increases the chances somewhat but it is nard to see how much.

What you should really compare them to, is Canada.

They have the same access to guns, yet, they do not kill each other...?

This is just silly. Guns have been invented so to protect yourself you need a gun, pretty simple. Nukes have been invented so to protect yourself you also need a nuke which is the majority of governments ideology. We have nukes to protect ourselves against Russia and what not. Bad people will always get the weapon so to sit around without a suitable defence if idiotic. If we all had guns we could just shoot the mad gunman.

What on earth are you on about. Is this your argument for the legalisation of carrying guns?

And anyone you don't like, or your cheating wife, or that idiot that pull out in front of you and smashed your bumper, or that drunk guy who poured his pint glass in your croch.

Comparing nukes to hand guns is idiotic and even within the realms of nuclear weapons MAD is not assured under all conditions making the very dangerous.

Wow I'm surprised we've gone this far without the pro-gun bridage getting up in arms :p

Boooooo hissssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!

Wow, I don't even know how to begin arguing with that.

Not really, Canada has 11 times less people living there? Taking that into account and looking at recorded incidents in the us and Canada it would seem the number of school shots per head of population is approximately the same.

This is definitely because of MW3. Yep.

I think it's time the media threw some excrement the USA's way for not modernising laws that were put into place two hundred years ago.

It would make more sense to compare the US with Canada than the UK, due to access to firearms.

No actually, every piece of documentation or statistic I can see, per head, Canada, and every other country in the world, is much, much lower than the US.

I'd say education level is a contributing factor.

Give stupid people guns, they will do stupid things with them.

Just as well the UK doesn't have that level of access to firearms else we would be in the same boat!

That's slightly different to what you first said. I inferred from your first statement that you were claiming that Americans have a generally lower level of education. Now you seem to be claiming everyone is stupid which I'd probably almost agree with.

I don't know the figures but I'd say the level of education in the US is lower than the average

Couple that with firearms everywhere you look it's a recipe for disaster.

The popular press will put this down to Battlefield 3 which I hear is quite popular amongst the student population.

yup, thats what they will say. they will skip over the fact that this happens in the USA much more than many countries and their easy access to guns. but hey, shooting schoolmates is in their constitution isnt it?

Ironically, the usual argument for the second amendment is the right to use guns to protect yourself and yet none of the victims at any of these school shootings has had a gun to protect themselves.

I hope no one was mortally wounded :(

all they then say is that all students should pack heat. 'they wouldnt be able to do it if everyone was armed' - stupid american logic.

1 per year in germany alone? granted, i heard about this story through my ex who has a lot of family in ohio but if there's one shooting a year at a school in germany, why are we not hearing about them on the national news? we hear about the US ones ...

never mind that, which school has all those shootings? <probably wildly inappropriate joke alert>

The answer isn't to give everyone a gun, the answer is to curb child obesity so they can flee more successfully!

I even gave you a nice get out of looking like a silly card, but you've gone and jumped right in there.

According to Wiki (references at the bottom so you can explore the dataset yourself). The USA ranks higher than the UK in the UN Education Index. It places it at rank 20 (we're 30), out of 179. That's a fair bit above the average.

Says the man with firearm avatar. :p

They don't have as easy access like the U.S does where pretty much anyone can own a firearm regardless of their motives.

Perhaps, but this has nothing to do with education. Just because some students know more about algebra or thermodynamics doesn't mean they also gain a greater sense of ethics.
