Hi, I will be building a complete new system (Asus P8Z68-V GEN3 Intel Z68/Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB /Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gbs/ Win7 Pro 64bit) and will be using the Crucial SSD as my OS/game drive and I want to make sure it has the latest 0309 firmware before installing the OS.

Can I install the firmware upgrade by way of USB stick instead of a CD before installing win7?

Any help or suggestions on the procedure would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Thx reddev85, good to know.

GM, no I haven't received it yet, next couple of days hopefully. Did you get similar SSD? Did you have to update it?

I had to update mine, I did it from a USB stick (there's another thread on this forum about it that has all the links) and it only took a few minutes, no problems at all so I wouldn't let it put you off.

I assume it'd be fine to do before installing windows, I did it with everything installed though and I didn't lose anything so it shouldn't be a problem.

Cheers TBM! I now have the SSD firmware ISO image on bootable USB stick ready to go if needed after following advice from bledd:

This is what I used to flash via USB (I don't have a DVD drive)

Download the ISO from Crucial
Then get this tool

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/univers...easy-as-1-2-3/

Step 1 Scroll down to the bottom. Select 'Try Unlisted Linux ISO (New Syslinux)'
Step 2 Extract the Crucial ISO file from the zip file, point the program at the ISO file
Step 3 Select the USB drive letter.

Reboot and boot from the USB stick
Create"

This method worked fine for me. As many I was a bit nervous but it is very easy, just go for it...

My one did come with the earlyer 009 firmware, followed instructions and had no probs at all, then carried on installing Os etc.

Thanks! :)
