Hey all,

Looking at buying a completely new system for the first time since I got my current system. To put it in perspective how long it's been, my sys at the moment is:
X1950 Pro 512mb
2GB DDR2
E6600 Core2Duo

At the time, this was a reasonably decent machine......!

I'm budgeting at the moment no more than £500 - this was including OS, but I might be able to get this cheaper through student friends.

I'll need a new motherboard, GPU, CPU and RAM. This is pretty much for Battlefield 3, so I'm guessing I'll need 4GB RAM. Don't need a hard drive or peripherals. Will my PSU be compatible with the new stuff? If so, it should be up for the job, although can't remember it's wattage off the top of my head.

Cheers people :)

What's your PSU?

Battlefield & Skyrim weren't the graphics killing beasts that we were led to believe, so no need for dual 580GTX setups just yet.

MoNkeE is running 1680*1050 btw.

The ones you have including DVD drive are SATA?

No idea without you saying what it is, open the case and see if theres a sticker on the side saying make+model.

Really? It was £70 when I bought it and meant to be a fairly decent PSU. It's also been working fine since January 2007 xD

That's great stulid, thanks :) left over to splash out on a new mouse and all!

Anyone else able to recommend anything comparable?

In all fairness the later Hiper PSUs such as the Type-M series weren't as bad as the earlier ones, but I think you'd still be better off with something new.

Sorry mate, that completely slipped my mind. I was thinking it when posting though xD

Worth putting extra t'wards a CPU and not the GPU?

I was actually recommended to get an nVidia 560, would this be a bad idea......?

If you get a GTX 560
