*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

There are a lot of plus sides to a dictatorship when it comes to city planning :)

If you want to be running a dictatorship, get your own server, otherwise respect people's right to a different opinion around here ;)

This discussion is getting a bit lengthy, it isn't going anywhere, is it?

Wut ??? Where was I not respecting peoples opinion ?

I'm discussing a community project, how about you suggesting something if you don't like the thread so far ? Don't twitter from the sidelines if you haven't brought any cake :)

Meanwhile I have a lot of Redstone (~ 7 x 64) if anyone is making a train station or something ?
Also lots of sand.

3500 Sandtone blocks :D

And a prewarning to all who enter the so called "Dan Land" do not, and I repeat do not have TNT in your hot bar while walking around, went to exit one of dans pyraminds and missed the button to exit. Placed a tnt block down and due to all the redstone he has lying around, well yeah you kinda can guess what happened next

^^ That was it sorta fixed up xD

By requesting someone made it into 'city planning'.

And if you want my 0.02$..

First and foremost, i just agree with what's being said against it so far, not everyone is going to want any underground rails running through their plots, and the suggested pattern looks ridiculously confusing. I agree that the overhead lines could do with a little better guidance as to where the rails are going.

I don't think simply beginning yet another system of rails is going to remedy anything at this point, as you say, people are adding too many lines to their plot, so why exactly would starting out yet another rail system make that less so? We would just have even more rail links and a harder time figuring out which line to take to get where. A nether rail link system is somewhat already in the making, if you want a smarter rail system i think you should look at that.

I won't be commenting further on the matter.

no worries Fran, as with you getting stuck in circles, that must have been before i updated the brakes system. The carts were just going too fast for the 'stop' track!

1 block in the nether = 8 blocks in the normal world, so effectively 8 times faster to get around :D

Umm, still not entirely sure, I made some joke about a dictatorship being easier to organise a community project and you think I was serious ? Is that about right, dunno ? Obviously I'm going to promote a idea but I'm pretty sure I can't tell anyone what to do... :)
I like planning stuff that is all, planning still requires consent.
(unless it's a corporation like McDonalds as they just threaten councils with unsustainable court costs and build where they like)

Oh, I thought at bedrock level nobody would notice much, actually it's the first time I've seen bedrock as I've never been down this far before. Do lots of people make levels down this far then ?
Well it's only as confusing as New York's street map, and actually as maps go a symmetrical grid is about as unconfusing as it gets, I've suggested just having less lines if it really does bother people, so that would be simply mimicking the above ground map (but straight)

OK, to reiterate, the last suggestion was a new underground line going straight NSE&W, freeing space above ground for plots and not affecting the view.
As that seems the least controversial let's just assume that's the only idea being proposed ?

Meh, I don't like this nether thing and don't want to use it. For me the whole point of Minecraft is that 'you need something, you build it', not use magic to do it. Still, if people like it then do it :)

Why do people say stuff like this ? The whole point of a discussion is to get viewpoints, it doesn't matter a jot if they are negative, it's still a view. My only function is to make sure people understand the idea correctly :(

Anyway, progress so far, I've gone from umm I think x=-2000 to x=-1200 and built an entry point at x=-1500 (every 500 blocks seems about right).
Hit about three lava pools so far. Not sure of the best way to deal with them but I've found going from above and replacing each block with cobblestone and then digging them out, removed enough lava to continue the passage. Adding water to make obsidium just made it harder to dig.
I'm putting torches on the left wall so I remember which direction I'm going in.
I think I'll try just keeping my finger on the dig button and then dying if I hit lava, I've set the spawn point just behind me so not much is lost.
Lava is pretty handy for smelting the iron and gold I find along the way, so I'm trying not to destroy any pools.

I've also found two new ravines, they look pretty cool so I'll explore those later.

It's easily worth doing this just to collect diamond, although I seem to have masses of redstone as well if anyone can use it ?

Edit:
I went back and tried the railway thing again.
I'm still doing it wrong, I put a cart on the first rail block and pushed the button - nothing happens, I inched the cart to the next stop and it gets stuck on the hump. Maybe it needs idiot instructions ?

Actually I was standing there knowing which physical direction to go in, but couldn't remember which compass direction that was, maybe a big compass at the station would help work out which track to take. I made a bit "E" once to remind myself that that direction was east.

You say that this is to get peoples views, but you refuse to listen and realize this is a bad idea. Not everyone wants tracks going through their builds. Not everyone wants to help build a new rail they'll use about once/twice in their entire time on the server. There is a reason people are giving only negative views on this - it's a bad idea.

Can't you just give this up? If you want a rail to your house, then do it but you'll have to do it, you'll have to mine it, and you'll have to take responsibility if you hit someone's build or get too close to it.
This isn't a project that would really benefit the community, as nobody here wants it, so why keep trying to persuade us otherwise?

People dont desire a rail system that goes nowhere of interest (thats why it doesnt link to my builds ;)). Wait until the map is more populated with 'things' or build interesting things at different points, and I'd imagine people might be more receptive to helping you build a track system between them.

Actually it's mostly you going on and on about how you don't like it.

How about YOU suggesting something and we can all nit pick at that

Can't you just give this up?

Y'know you are right, I'm bored of trying to do something if all I get is whining from you all the flipping time, what is your problem ?

Please consider yourself in charge of every community project that will ever get done in here, because unless you personally love it to bits then it's never going to get done is it ?

I give up, do what the hell you want, life's too short for getting stressed over a game.

Stick a block at the end of the track, so the minecart can't fall off. Then when you push button you will go forward :)
