Make Bradford British TV Program

Justintime: Hey, "back in the day" you English used to give us "jocks" all kinds of ****. Heard of William Wallace? Or we not going that far back in time? ;)

**** is a contraction of Pakistani
Scot is a contraction of Scotman/Scottish

I was told that Scot is how the people of Scotland wanted to be referred to as i.e. a Scots person rather than a Scottish person. If I want to give a jock some **** I'll call them a Scotch ;)

I am just watching this program atm on ch4 website :D

Although there are some integration issues in this country, the programme just made me laugh :D

Rashid ***!! lol :p

Whats your take on being offended by being called **** as a contraction of Pakistani but the younger generation of the same people referring to each other and elder ones as "TPs" or "typical pakis" ? Another term banded around quite a lot in Glasgow.

Is that ok?

What are you waffling on about?

TP = Typical Pakistani

Anyhow what’s that got to do with you, if a Pakistani wants to call another Pakistani a TP he can, because he is a Pakistani himself (not saying it’s right). Just like when black people call other black people *******.

Am i sensing you have an issue with some people being allowed to use these terms whilst others not?

The ex-copper in the program i actually felt sorry for, i don’t think he's a racist just a little ignorant.

An extreme example would be: It wouldn’t be funny if a German said to his Jewish mate in a joking manner "best off taking you to a Auschwitz" don’t think it would go down too well.

I think what most "natives" forget the minorities in this country are minorities and racial slurs as above have significant more effect because of this. You always here in reply "well you can call white ******* etc in return and i wouldn’t be offended" yes because you are NOT a minority in this country. You haven’t been through what "coloured" people in this country have been through. You are the majority and in control. Especially given the circumstances these terms were used and are used in now, for example in the 80's when "**** bashing" was popular, I’ve been told stories by people what used to happen. Even now a day’s I’ve personally experience this myself, being chased out of school by "natives" shouting "get the ****".

The best way you could put is go live in a foreign country like Saudi Arabia or something, take 50 years of abuse by them, get beaten up in racial attacks whilst they shout "white pigs" because you are white and then tell me whilst living in their country if the term "white pigs" in general conversation is not an issue for you.

Of course it's not OK.

That's like asking a black person if they're happy being called a ****** because Nigeria begins with with nig.

So if young Pakistani boys say this about their own race and elders and use the terminology of **** thats not ok?

Well they do ... so if they do, it must be ok then yes ?

Its got nothing to do with me at all, but if people use the term to describe themselves then why is it unacceptable for other people to use it? We all getting too PC these days ?

So wait a sec here, ah now I get you ... calling someone a "white pig" is bad so thats like calling someone a "**** _____" but calling someone "white" or using it as a description without any negative connotations is ok, similar to using a shorted form of Pakistani?

Or am I missing something in what you are saying?

Well they're hardly being racist to each other?

Why is this such a big issue for you? If you want to call people Pakis, go right ahead, just don't be surprised if someone thinks you're being racist by using a racial slur.

I think you're missing quite a lot. Either that or you're trying to be obtuse on purpose.

I call my friends ****s yet if I call you a **** in the street something tells me you won't be too happy about it.

I think the bottom line is too many people jump on things that have no negative connection just for the sensationalism aspect. Ive never felt slighted being referred to as "that Scot" :)

So there's never been any tension between Scottish people and English people?

So you also think that calling someone a racial slur is 'jumping on the bandwagon'?

No negative connection? What are you on about? Are you trying to deny that racism exists?

I give up. Perhaps you should educate yourself on the matter. :o

So by that logic you, as a white person, should also be allowed to say "******" because some black people call each other "*******"? Please go try that out, should be interesting what happens next ...

From your above reply, its clear you have some sort of complex about not being able to use words others can...lol

Calling someone a chinky, **** or ****** is not "getting too PC" jesus

Not referring to some as that white guy, the black guy or Asian guy IS "getting too PC" For example on question time a few series back, Dimbleby used everything from the man with the red shirt, to the man with glasses etc, because he was being too PC and should have just said the "black gentleman in the red shirt" that would have been fine with me as there were only two black guys in the audience and he was clearly struggling to identify the man. Now thats being "too PC", using racial slurs doenst fall into this categary.

Thing is the Pakistani's didn’t invent the term "****'s" the "white man" did and let me tell you it wasn’t for shortening the word "pakinstani". The black man didn’t invent the term "*******" let me tell you again the "white man" did and it wasn’t for innocent reasons.....

Thats it. From now on I demand that no one says the word Scots ... Evar. Unless you are Scottish.

I just laugh and shake my head at all of this. Maybe down in England you get your knickers in a knot more than we do up here about things.

Fantastic :D just like songify the news - and i know the guy who did the remix too. Good old ALX from AATW/Clubland
