Horrible whining noise and severe loss of power? Argh!

Hopefully it's the last time you'll let a service interval slip. :p

Do you let the engine idle for a few seconds when you pull up after driving it, before turning the engine off?

No but I will on my next car. I didn't know I had to, but it looks like I've learned the hard way.

This car will be SORN now.

It's sickening to be honest. The car cost me £8135 in 2010, now it's probably worth about £2000 in it's current state.

how long did it go without a service? how many miles has it got?

i blame this on long life servicing too!

It's done 63,000 miles it had done 55,000 when I bought it and it was serviced along with cambelt, pump, tensioner just before I bought it by the dealer I bought it from on a long life service.

That's insane for a turbo. An acquaintance of mine paid much less than that for both turbos fitted for an Audi S4.

Is there more to it that just whacking in a new one, i.e. is there engine damage?

That price is a joke, you can get good second hand turbos for not so much money, they arent that complicated so its easy to check for a naff one. Its not an overly big job to replace one.

Its shouldnt really cost more than a grand using a decent indy including a secondhand turbo.

Went to VW and got the list of what's up...this is a list of what they said with prices:

Would a 1.9TDI Golf be able to tow a Touran? lol

Just wow @ the list of stuff wrong with that?! All that on a 65k mile car?

Didn't you notice the tyres were defective?

No mate :( I hardly ever drive it myself. I was aware I'd need to get new front's soon, but had no idea about a bulge. I've still not seen it. The car is still at VW, I'm going to get it recovered to an indy or tow it with my Golf lol

Going to get it home and VAG-COM it first to check for codes and then get an indy to take the Turbo off for me, spoke to someone who will come to me, then I'll get midland turbos to recon my turbo and get matey back to put it back on I think. Or borrow his ramps and save on the labour costs.

I want to get the turbo and tyres done before the 1st of April so I can get it though the MOT with advisories so I can save up for the rest to be done.

/edit although part of me is wondering how much I'd get for it p/x in it's current state so that I could get a new one.
