You do make a good point here.
Uk border agency needs heavily reinforced, and we need to stop taking aslum claims for a while if we really want to secure the borders.
Stop immigration under our current rules and make it incredibly stringent.
Remove martial immigration.

All of which will secure us somewhat, but the country harm overall.

It is all a balancing act, but the door would indeed appear to be rather blowing about at the moment, and securing it, would be helpful.
Then keep killing the guys down the end of the street.

Makes it even sadder tbh... they died serving their country - willingly putting themselves in harms way in order to attempt to bring about stability to that country.

Much sadder than some pop star/celeb who abused their own body with drugs/alcohol or some smoker with lung cancer etc...

To pull out now would be pointless, Soldiers are just staying put to train the Afghan army, we should never of gone to Iraq, we took the eye off the ball with that something like 10 people had been killed up to 2006 in Afghan and nearly 400 from 2006 to now, Pakistan and Iran have lot to answer for, they are funding and helping terrorists in Afghan, we need to destroy Pakistan and Iran if we want to keep Afghan safe.

We need to leave Afghanistan. The people have always been violent and cruel, and our half assed effort (in terms of resources and support, not the efforts of the soldiers) is a futile gesture that will be wiped away soon, and will be consigned to the efforts of the soviets.

At the moment it's merely a death ground which is funded by whoever wants to see coalition deaths.

The major difference being is that people, by and large, don't go out of their way to deliberately kill another road user.

Was that the reason they were in the army or was it, as is the case with all the people I know who joined, that it's seen as a better job than filling shelves?

Reason they joined is irrelevant - they still went out there to do that job and put their lives on the line regardless.

It's sad to say that many of the deaths were avoidable during this war. The Forces are under funded and inefficient with the money they do have. Simple example: my brother will be going back out for a 3rd time totalling 7 months out of 12, something that isn't meant to be allowed. The reason? Most soldiers I speak to on a daily basis love the high turn around between tours? Some say it's because it's real soldiering not bored ####### around camp? And also they save make good money on tour.

i've had this conversation with my mates so many times since coming back from POTL, I'd genuinely rather be back out there doing my job, rather than stuck in barracks doing duties, boring jobs, dull courses and spending so much on living costs.
cant wait for my next tour, get back out there and earn some decent money again.

Warriors were being taken out of action/ripped to shreds in Iraq from Ieds, not that big a surprise.Not very armored underneath.

As someone who spent six months in Afghanistan helping train this 'rabble of men' I find what you're saying both ungrateful and offensive.

I'll also point out that on a number of occasions, the Afghan police helped save mine and my colleagues lives.

I'm making the assumption you are solider of some degree , so I would like to say thank you. I for one appreciate what you are doing. Leaving the politics aside the army deserve a lot of credit

IEDS are very effective against armored vehicles especially EFP ieds (shaped charge)I was hit by three ieds on op telic ten.Two of which were only small and hardly had any effect.1st ied however, smacked through the engine block of our warrior and knocked out full screw dismount sat next to me.Pretty lucky but ieds have done a lot of damage to warriors in the past.A few fatalities too.Even challengers have taken damage from ieds in some cases, although i doubt challengers are used much in Afghan.

My apologies, I'd misread your post.

However, my point stands. I'm sure the members of the forces are far more accepting of events like this as part and parcel of the job they've decided to do, for whatever reason but the constant bleating from the media that they are doing it purely for altruistic reasons is wearying.
