****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Nokia desk stand that I nicked from a 5800 I had for a very short few days:

Justy received one of those, the arms on mine close up together much more when the weight of the phone is on it.

Way too unstable to even touch the phone whilst it is sat in it.

Ahh well it was only 99p

Question for you guys :) I's still stuck on my old desire for another few months yet and am now totally sick of it :) Ive got a friend who has a new SGS2 which I can have cheap as a stopgap but its locked on Virgin if I root and install custom rom will it unlock carrier lock? or is the only way to buy a unlock code

just WAIT! no need to switch phones and by the time your contract ends all the new quads should be around. Mrs is in the same position and though it may suck now you will be in a great position in a few months time.
Unlike us old chaps that will need to pay an extortionate amount to upgrade to the new phones mid contract. :p

I had this problem. I fixed it by getting a custom Phone.apk which has Noise Reduction forced off. Since your phone is new and you probably haven't rooted or anything yet, I would send it back for a replacement or repair, not much to lose.

Yeah I have a replacement coming tomorrow but what if the other handset is the same? Uhh

Silly question here but Shall I take off my screen protector?

I've had it on for about 8 months now. It has barely been needed. I know that once I take it off, I'll end up scratching the screen or worse.

Such a nice screen, feel like I have been missing out on it for 8 months!

I'd gamble and take it off, I haven't had one on mine and so far no scratches

Got the same problem :p

Just gonna force it open with glue or something..

Isn't that something to do with the noise cancelling on the phone.apk? If you're rooted, there's modified versions that removes it.

If I turn the Noise reduction off in calls the call quality goes fine - But hadn't the phone supposed to be working fine without messing with the call settings anyway? Afterall most other people don't need to turn noise reduction off.

From what I read earlier it seems to be a malfunction with the mic that's located near the top side of the phone.

Cheers

Don't cover the microphone at the top/bottom of your phone and it will be fine, same for any case you might have :)

Yes it is a fault, a common one too.

Not really a fault if used correctly :)

There's a fix for this on xda. It requires taking the phone apart though!

I made sure it wasn't covered when I had the case off.

I saw that fix, I just don't feel like I should have to do that considering my phone is only a day old though. :(

Is it likely the replacement I will get tomorrow will give the exact same issue? If it does I wonder if I'll be able to cancel my contract and go for a different phone instead? As much as I'd hate to, I'd have to look at getting an iPhone 4S but I'm really liking the GS2 so far, it just seems to be plagued with issues.

Cheers
