Been looking round for a tablet and was wondering out of these 2 which would you pick. Both around £270 am i right in thinking the xoom is the older of the 2?

Xoom has the better screen I think, there have been some criticism of the G9 screen. Otherwise the Xoom uses a Tegra 2 SoC whilst the G9 uses an OMAP4630 SoC. Also if I remember correctly the G9 has only 512MB RAM vs the 1GB in the Xoom.

I have the XOOM and use it literally every day - great tablet and with the new XOOM2 out meaning that you can get official accessories dirt cheap too (I got the silicone sleeve and mini HDMI cable for about a tenner!). I stuck a 32Gb card in so totalling 64Gb of storage which is more than enough. I like how you can connect the XOOM to your TV making it a mini media player which is pretty cool. It's a great tablet in my opinion and with motorola hopefulling releasing ICS for it in the not-to-distant future then it's still a good purchase.

I geniunely believe you wont be disappointed with a XOOM :)

The Xoom is very good, although the ULV Geforce is a bit slow.

Mines got AOSP ICS, RAM manager and 1.6ghz overclock and it's excellent for web browsing, watching videos etc.

Another vote for the Xoom here, had mine since Christmas and it is a great device...no official ICS for Europe yet but very easy to get it on there.

Well I decided to get myself one and it came this morning, so far it seems very good and quite slick. Just need to get myself a nice case and a stand, any cool apps I could look out for I've got angrybirds on and its so much faster than my phone! :D

ah nice,im looking at buying one but im only 99.9% convinced on the xoom atm :D

what are your initial thoughts on it ? reviews say its quite heavy ? what do you get in the box ?

as for apps if you have a android phone look into the apps that let you remotely control the tab, this will be ideal if your using the tab as a media player , wazz a film on it , plug it into the tv and use your phone as the remote control :)

tablet remote & unified remote both on the market :)

cant say i noticed it been that heavy but it was on my lap for most the time ive been using it, in the box was the xoom a charger and 2 manuals there might of been something else like a cable or something cant remember and ive put the box away now though.

I have a Xoom. It is good, however it does struggle with 720p/1080p playback (DVD res is fine though). It is a little jerky. No idea about the Archos unit.

have u tried different media player apps ? ive read the screen is quite reflective,is this an issue for general use ?

I tried many many apps!

The limitation was the CPU power.

The screen is reflective, but unless you have a direct light source behind you its not a major issue.

ok thanks for the info , is the HD playback issue the only problem you have come across on the xoom ? do u have a speaker dock for yours ace modder ?

i've not tried 1080p just 720p and not had any issues with playback - using mx player.

Also,Motorola have confirmed European ICS release for Q2 on their roadmap from their webby which is great news!!

Don't forget to check out the official accessories on the rainforest website. I originally purchased the portfolio case which is very good although with the recent drop in prices, I got the mini HDMI cable and Silicone sleeve for around a tenner!

thats good to know thanks Alty, have you found anything you dont like about the xoom yet ? how do the speakers sound when watching a film or listening to music ? and have u plugged it into your tv yey and used it as a media player ? if so was there any problems ?

so many questions :D

i connected my XOOM to the plasma at work and subjected my work colleagues to various divx and it worked a treat. I also took it to a mates house the other night and stuck it on their LCD and they were well impressed.

Soundwise I have had no issues with the speakers on the rear nor with them being rear facing. They are perfectly adequate for use.

My Xoom is Plenty loud enough & the Volume slider is usually around the 50% - 60% mark, I have to turn it right down when I porn. :o
