Tesco Petrol prices in you area pls help

Say Tesco Store A has a customer base of say, 1000 customers per week as they're out in the sticks, and Tesco Store B is in a busy town centre and has 10,000 customers per week.

Tesco A must still make enough to pay for petrol station staff wages, the overheads of actually running the place and maintenance etc. Tesco B has a lot more customers, so can afford to make less profit per transaction than Tesco A and still come out at a profit.

It's not really this at all - there are plenty of huge turnover Tesco stores with higher fuel prices.

The reason really is as simple as that which I gave in Post 8.

They charge more simply because there is no need for them to charge less. If you have a Tesco filling station and within a 5 mile radius there are 10 other filling stations, the minimum price of which is say 137.9p a litre, why charge 134.9? It is simply not required to attract the business.

2 towns over, there might be another Tesco with another 10 filling stations within a 5 mile radius. But some of these charge just 134.9p a litre. In this situation, as a Tesco store, you'd want to charge 134.9p a litre to ensure you continue to attract the business.

Bingo - two tesco stores, two different prices.

It really is that simple and quite why there is now a 2 page thread I've no idea.

Oh wait, it's an easyrider thread.

I sympathise with easyrider. I also find it frustrating that this happens despite knowing exactly why it does. But nothing is more effective than simply using another filling station, which is what I do when its the case. Unless there isn't another one thats cheaper, in which case Tesco are still the cheapest locally, so...

Why isn't this the case with Asda and Morrisons? Simple - its just a marketing decision. Asda and Morrisons feel that the goodwill generated by having a fixed price for the entire country is worth more to them than the profit lost by being so much cheaper than they need to be. Thats a commercial decision.

To be fair, everyone jumping on this "wow your making this fuss for 3p" bandwagon is the same reason why prices just keep on rising. To be frank, people are mugs to just accept the price increase and go on about their lives. If everyone did kick up a stink,(and actually do something rather than moaning about it for a few hours and forgetting) and have easy's attitude to complaining to companies we all wouldn't be mugged off.

Let us know how it goes Easy, more people need your approach.

Thanks mate.

Good on you ER, hopefully you get something from this!

The roll over and take it attitude that most of society takes is the exact reason that most companies don't bother with proper R&D and quality control any more.

TVs are pot luck on whether they have defects or not (never mind the amount of people posting on the net about their TV giving up within 2-4 years). Not to mention the amount of mobiles/technology that have overheating issues and defects from launch as well.

You pay £XXX amount for a product, you deserve as much in quality. Not sending it off for repair 3-8 months down the line to receive a refurb or to be told "hard luck" 13 months later when it kicks the bucket.

It's quite evident in the attitude an amount of people take when you mention getting angry at XYZ computer component manufacturer/e-tailer for unsatisfactory service/product.

But good on you ER, you're my Sunday hero.

All you will demonstrate is that tesco pricing differs from area to area which:

A) we already know
B) is not price fixing.

^^^ this

I wrote to the store manager asking why my local Tesco was 3p more a litre on diesel than the tesco store 10 miles away

Define Local?

How can the two tesco's be so different in price and yet be so close?

Might not be down to the store manager - wouldn't be surprised if it was set higher up than that - would make sense that a company that size would be monitoring local competition, numbers of people filling up, profiling their customers etc... maybe one store has less immediate competitors, perhaps one store has less sales etc... could be any number of factors that they've taken into account. There is a reasonable chance that perhaps your store manager doesn't necessarily know how the prices are set or maybe he does set them himself - either way he's still going to think you're an annoying idiot.

The letter took me 5 mins to write.

As a tesco cunstomer I feel hard done by and want answers.

Last time I complained to tesco they sent me out a 100 quid power washer. and 75 quids worth of Vouchers.

Its a genuine question and I want answers.

I complained to Viewsonic and they sent me out a new monitor and a cheque for £150

I contacted consumer direct after IBM refused to repair my laptop 1 month out of warranty. IBM repaired my laptop and gave me a new chassis and free ram upgrade.

Jeez... are you also one of those people who writes into the Daily Mail letter's page?

either way he's still going to think you're an annoying idiot.

And do I care?

If he wont give me answers then I will find them from somebody higher up.

You don't think I give two hoots what some super market manager thinks of me?

Lol

Tesco prides themselves on customer service and I think I will get a response shortly.

I was at the till the other day and the girl forgot to ask me for my clubcard before the transaction so no points were added to my card.

She gave me the receipt and I said can you now add my points. She said she couldn't.

I politely asked for the supervisor who gladly added my points there and then.

See I f someone doesn't know then you get to somebody who does.

As said then if the Store manager doesn't respond not only will I complain about his rudeness higher up but still complain about the price of the fuel.

And do I care?

If he wont give me answers then I will find them from somebody higher up.

You don't think I give two hoots what some super market manager thinks of me?

I doubt anyone higher up will care either - they'll just think you're an idiot and will likely send you a generic reply + maybe some vouchers...

If your aim is just to be a pest, write to companies for spurious reasons and get free stuff from them then I guess it will work. If you believe you can change anything re: the price of petrol from this then its rather unlikely.

Give it a break, and spare me the lecture. What a business needs to to in order to profit?

I'm sure it comes under continuing to rip people off to see how far people can be pushed, and as soon as it becomes mainstream news they start to freeze the prices or offer 10p off every litre if you spend £50 or more... well its just risen 15p in the past 2 weeks so you aint getting no value.

Yeh.... thanks for the lecture. A prime example of the mentality of the majority of people out there.

You're wrong, it's not risen 15p in the last 2 weeks at all.

No matter how many people complain, they still need to make a profit. Given the profit on fuel is so low, all you'll do is fill up the bins of Tesco stores everywhere with your ZOMGGIVEMECHEAPFUEL letters.

You obviously need to read the lecture, as your argument fails on many levels.

People like you are SO annoying.

I filled up with fuel recently and the lady didn't ask me for my Tesco Clubcard, I also forgot to mention it.
Quick walk to customer services the next time I was in a store and done, they put them on the card. No real hassle for anyone, is it that hard for you not to act like a ****?
