Huge tyre braking distance test

Gonna put the Rainsport 2's back onto my car this weekend to replace the winter tyres on there atm.

A little surprised the CS5 didn't perform better.

speaking of the Dunlop

does anybody know anything about the SportMaxx RT they tested ?

I can't seem to find any at the usual stockists, and they arent mentioned on dunlop website ? only the Sportmaxx TT. Is the RT above or below the TT, and what about the GT ?

Its not easy to tell where they all lie and which is their top tyre.

Quantitative testing is really useful for bits like that :) I'd imagine you are right and MikeH is wrong (Especially as he confusingly goes on to mention that yea, actually aquaplaning isnt so hot after ignoring the fact you said 'downpour' rather than just 'wet'), but it does highlight what can happen with opinion.

I don't know what your roads are like, but it needs to be raining hard for hours on end before there is the amount of water on the road to worry about aquaplaning.

I guess I took the use of 'downpour' in a less than literal fashion, however the point stands - in normal, wet conditions the AD08 still rocks.

Suprised to see the hankooks that high, I've just bought a full set a coupla month back.
The others I was looking at were the Uniroyals which again came in quite high, guess I was in the right ballpark :)

I was also looking at Avon ZV5's theyve come in pretty low

Hankooks are a premium brand, so shouldn't be a surprise, the ZV5's are a mid budget tyres, and performed less well than I expected, but not anything to overly concern me, I cannot imagine they performed worse than highway code stopping distances, so the 2 second rule still applies.

Mine came with the wheels, but hen I replace them, they will likely be replaced by some CS's or AS2's.

just like the Korean Car Manufacturers, they are really coming on leaps and bounds.

Hankook are now the official tyre supplier for the DTM for example

They sell mid range tyres as well as the high performance ones, same as Michelin, Continental, Dunlop etc..

The S1 Evo 2 has done well in some of the other tyre tests i've seen too.

But they are a world away from the Chinese Ditchfinders like Ling Long and Wan Li. Of the mid range tyre companies, some of them are in turn owned by the big boys anyway (Uniroyal are owned by Continenta, and Michelin owns BF Goodrcich for example)

In this month PPC, there is an E36 328 with a supercharged LS1 wearing Falken 452s

80% of BMW's run Falkens and every BMW forum is full of people who have convinced themselves that Falken's are basically like Pilot Super Sports only 100x better oh and they are half the price but thats not why they chose them.

Further backs up my purchase of a pair of Eagle F1s for the ST. Waiting for the rears to wear down and then i'll stick a pair on the back too :)
