Maxda RX-8

Then your clearly an idiot and the "research" you did is none existent.

They do NOT need a rebuild after 60k!! The RX7 yes! The RX8 no!

I'd rather be an 'idiot' in the eyes of a blatant fanboy than a fanboy in the eyes of everybody with half a brain cell to rub together.

The fact of the matter is RX8s are cheap for a reason.

Yes it will be a higher mileage car but honestly they aren't worth a lot more, but bottom end of market will be riddled with faults lore then likely!
3k will get you a low mileage one!
They really are that cheap these days, which sucks coz I lost a bit on mine now!!

Common stuff to look for worn rotors, plugs/coils, starter motor ( not cheap!!) **** tyres!

To the guy who says engine shot at 60k - total ********!!! The RX7 engines were shot around 70k, not the 8. The renesis version in the 8 if well maintained lasts as long as a normal engines car. Just can't let those rotor tips get worn!

My engine only lasted 43K...

I've owned of of these before.

Great cars to drive. Great seating position, plenty of room for people and luggage.

Bad points..... MPG averages in the mid teens. I don't know about you guys but I found this ridiculous. I mean the car only has 230bhp. The thing drinks like its a 5 litre V8. It also lacks torque... I often found myself revving the engine to the red line (the engine likes a good ragging).

Then there's the oil consumption. Yep it drinks oil as if there's no tomorrow..... Ahhh and the fact that you should never switch the engine off while its cold. So in other words don't plan any short 5 min journeys. Doing so could seriously damage the engine!

As long as the engine is warm before switching it off you'll be fine.

Would I get one again..... Probably not. I think I sooner get something like the Nissan 350Z

Another owner experience here..

My one is currently in for an engine rebuild at 54k miles, been well cared for and looked after by me for the passed 33k miles/4 years, had 2 previous and I have no idea how they drove it, what oil they used etc.

Stay well clear of any cheap RX8s unless you have a spare £4000+ for the rebuild costs, would be looking for one with a recent engine rebuild/warranty for ~£6000 if I was looking now.

Their value dropped hugely after road tax for them went up into the £400s.

I sold mine for 10k back when I only had to pay around £230 for tax.

This is roughly the same mileage mine started to fail at. If you read the owners forums, there are lots of people with dying engines on similar miles. This is despite them being well looked after examples. Yet numerous people on here have labled me a clueless idiot for saying they are prone to failure at this mileage.

I loved driving my RX8 as it handled great and it really was a unique car. But unfortunately, the rotary engine is inherently flawed. Unless you are lucky, you will get rotor tip wear around the 60k mark. It's a shame, but this is fact. The design of the engine hasn't changed all that much since the RX7 and we all know the problems that had.

I think the RX8 is best left as an enthusiasts car.

I'm shocked!

This from a car that drinks so much petrol.
here another 231bhp RX-8 dyno tested

Max 177.2 HP (fly)
Max 146.7 HP (wheels)
