Focus 1.0 Litre EcoBoost

I'm looking to buy a new Ford Focus with the 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder EcoBoost engine (123bhp). I am going to test drive one before I buy it but am interested if anyone here has experience of this car and engine?

Specifically - how does it drive, what are the noise levels like in the cabin, is the power delivery smooth and how close to the claimed 57mpg do you get?

Isn't all this the point of the test drive?

Very few will have experienced this engine with it only being available for all of 5 minutes

I doubt it but I'd be interested to hear. Thing is there are a lot of petrol heads in this forum and anyone that even entertains a 1.0 3 cylinder engine was scared off years ago

Virtually everyone else I've spoken to has raved about it. Was supposed to drive one a few months ago but it never turned up as we had a change of plans.

Haha! I was driving a Micra with the 1.2-litre supercharged triple this weekend, cracking little mill. Not quite as potent as, say, the 1.6-litre EcoBoost with 178bhp, but still. Made an entertaining noise...

Not too bad. My 2.0 MK1 was 1156 kg according to Parkers and had similar BHP.

My E30 had similar power and was 200kg heavier!

2.0 Straight 6, 23-28mpg and about a tonne of carbon per mile. God damn it.

I imagine people here would be concerned with higher repair costs since its a turbo compared to the outgoing 1.6 n/a?

As it's so new it would be covered under warranty anyway.

123bhp from a 1litre 3 cyl is just crazy, i imagine it'd need ragging to call hell to get anywhere though
