New Citys Announced 2012

Blackburn will never become a City as Preston is so close, but seeing St Asaph getting a city statues is a joke. Blooming Clitheroe is bigger than that!

St Asaph: Population 3,500.
Middlesbrough: Population 150,000.

St Asaph is now a city and Middlesbrough isn't. Just lol.

(Yes Middlesbrough is a ****hole etc)

Reading's population is 232k, and still isn't a City ;) Yet where I'm from is a city, and has a population of just 15k. :)

What an absolute crock of ****. Why the hell have they overlooked Reading, AGAIN? Bookies favourites for good reason but alas, we remain a town.

I'm actually pleased that Croydon didn't win this. It sounds bitchy but in my opinion they genuinely don't deserve it. Probably some of the worst town planning in the country, a council that don't give a hoot and a string of social problems. I've not heard of St Asaph, so perhaps it might make Croydon sit up and realise their arrogance at thinking they might win city status over a lot of much better places.

Because City sounds better than Town and anything to help improve this dump is worthwhile. Might also bring in some more jobs / commerce here as we need it.

Meh, getting city status doesn't provide you with anything but a costly name change process. I really doubt that being designated a city will bring in more investment.
