2 x HD7970 CF and... problems. I'm fed up. Please help.

Basically if you fork out loads for something, you want it to work as it should. But if you buy cheap stuff, its not the end of the world if its a tad rubbish..

But this is what I dont get, ppl spending hundreds and maybe in the 4 figgure sum on crossfire/Sli and it dont always do the job its ment todo. But a £50-£300 single card/gpu you can guarantee to work as it should. Something is just not right their somewhere, dont you think

I know what Id go for everytime,, But saying that I wouldnt mind messing about with crossfire/sli, to see what numbers I could get, but for games its a tad pointless as no game runs even slightly chuggy without multi cards or gpus and even more so now as most games are ported rubbish. Before you say it,, if you use more then 1 screen for gaming, buy the the fastest single gpu card thats out, as Im sure it will still run fine without multi gpu's and a hell of a lot cheaper too, I bet.

Edit: Na, the more I think about sli/crossfire, the worse it gets, as you just adding more things to go pair shaped, plus the motherboard might not get along with the cards, let alone the games not liking it.. Keep it simple guys.

Hmmmm i think quite a few games may run a bit chuggy as you put it with one card at top settings at a high resolution.

As for triple monitors well if a game ran a "bit chuggy" at full settings with just one monitor and one card then im quite sure trying same said game with triple monitors and the same gpu isnt really going to go very well now is it?

I agree with phil, i went a blew loads of cash on sli gtx 580's and three screens etc. however nor all games supported the high resolution etc and also my pc and gpu temps went through the roof. I now game on one gtx 580 and a single 24" benq and i am so happy now as i no longer have a chuggy hot pc and every game works!

I have not posted for a while, but just to let you know I have solved all problems.

No blue screens, no crashes, no issues at all. I got my 2nd card back, and everything is running like a dream.

I would never go back to a single screen, it's like losing two eyes. My temps are high but so what? I'll do watercooling soon and it's gonna be perfect

And thats good for you im pleased for you honestly but not everybody is the same.
Some like triple monitors and multi gpu`s and thats ok too, i just wish some people could see that instead of going on every sli/xfire thread and saying how crap it is.

I dont even have sli/xfire and im just with 1 monitor too. Id love to have the money and space for both but i dont, but i also dont carry a grudge against people than can afford it and have the space, instead of being bitter and jealous i say good luck and enjoy to any that can afford too


Edit: before anyone mentions the fact my sig says i have a 4870x2 and that counts as xfire it died on me a couple of months ago i just have not changed my sig as im waiting on a rebuild with a new gpu

I would never carry a grudge against anyone who wishes to enjoy their hobby, i just feel sorry for people who spend loads of cash on sli or crossfire set ups and dont get what they paid for i.e. shoddy drivers, games that dont support super wide screen res.

So how did you fix the crashing problem? Upping NB voltage? Did you try another PSU?

Crashing problems were caused by drivers, AMD drivers.

Drivers I'm using just now are 12.3. Best drivers so far, no issues, quite a big jump in performance as well.

@Corssair. What games do you play? the 12.3 ones made a lot of texture/map dissappear on me in bf3, which is what i play most. So i had to revert back to 12.2 precert and 12.1 either cap 1 or cap2. I'm not sure how to check.

No it was not. When I sent the faulty GPU for RMA, I then changed the drivers while using the single one.

When 2nd GPU came, I reinstalled the drivers again and everything seemed fine but wasn't working as it should. Sometimes second GPU didn't want to work so I had to "force launch" it by opening furmark menu...

Now when I have updated to 12.3 everything works like a dream!

I have 12.3(8.95-120214a) prelease version, they are working amazing. Totally no issues, and BF3 works fine too.

Hmm, that's exactly what it says I have in CCC but I physically installed the 12.2 precert, maybe it shows up as 12.3 in CCC?

What cap are you using? Are you gaming at 1080p?

I still find scaling/gpu usage to be all over the place at 1080p, if I turn down settings to get more FPS my GPU usage goes down and FPS stays the same, it's really head wrecking! Can't even keep it above the 120hz.

I'm gaming in 5760x1080p. The CAP I'm using I think is the newest one.

I have noticed in last 2 days that my fps has dropped extremely, and the CPU is being used 100%. It didn't happen before, something must have been changed. Did they update the game?

I'm sick of this ****.

EDIT:

Just reinstalled the drivers to newest version and guess what? Couldn't go without a single problem.
CCC OverDrive does not work, when I click on "accept" its just gone.

**** this ****, AMD is a ****ing joke. Sorry guys rage but I'm fed up with computing.
