Australian Grand Prix 2012, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/20

Unlucky for Rosberg who couldn't seem to string a good lap together.

Hopefully the red bulls don't have too many more decent tyres for the race.

Red Bull Racing and Lotus have asked the FIA to reconsider its view that the Mercedes DRS-activated F-duct is legal, with sources suggesting that an official protest cannot be ruled out.
didnt horner say in a sky interview RBR wouldnt be protesting?

Vettel going to have a hard time tomorrow.
Merc behind him that is 12km/s faster on the straight and double drs with one detection point.

Well that was worth getting up for!

Obviously too early in the season to draw big conclusions, but after seeing that it looks like we're not going to have another RBR whitewash, which can only be a good thing.

Just seen the replay of the pole lap and Lewis was not pushing the car :D

No finger this year thank god..

Good point.

This season is going to be interesting. Looks like it's probably gonna be between button and Hamilton for the drivers title. Personally with how well he raced last season my money is on button.

God they're really going on about this Mercedes stuff aren't they.

Urgh, they've gone all football with this top 10 thing, making them all look up from the floor. Why do they have to copy that

Who still thinks Williams are dying out now? How did Maldonado manage to make the top ten, in a car which looked in testing like it would struggle to get out of Q1?

He was and he wasn't, I think this year, the "proper" cornering without essentially cheating to get more downforce means sliding in and out of corners, holding the back and and the bigger the pair of balls you own, the faster you can go round corners...... and that suits Lewis down to the ground.

Button doing his "i was only 1 tenth behind" but as you said it was his first run, expecting a second and it was his fast but slightly banker lap. Almost all last year everyone went faster on the second run, and almost everyone went faster second run this year as I'm sure Hamilton could have. Maybe a slightly bad lap by Button first time but I think had Hamilton needed to he could have pushed and gained another few tenths.

Hamilton hopefully without anyone ahead of him I can see putting in solid exceptional laps and doing really well.

However race pace, how hard cars push tyres, all complete unknowns at this point.

Grojean though, epic for Lotus, he's looked very very strong all weekend and pulled out a fantastic lap. Schumi as well, I think with a strong car and a real chance to win plus having had time to really get back into the swing of it, plus as said cars that race a bit more like cars when he was a champion I think we could see a great season from him.

EDIT:- I also quite like Alonso driving but love it when he's angry, couldn't help but laugh. Anyone already thinking he might look for a better car to drive in next season?

*cough*

So who was saying that McLaren will have to make a new chassis so they can use the step nose as they've made a wrong decision with their design direction?

:D

I think it's more likely that Ferrari will have to build a new chassis instead.

There are strong rumours that Ferrari will be building a new chassis, part of the reason is that they will be ditching the pull rod front suspension.

Well done lewis and macca, nice to see that the only good looking car on the grid can still go quick.

Unfortunately I think tomorrow is going to be dominated by people taking turns screaming past each other in the DRS areas.

Hoping for many pictures and vids as couldn't see anything today through live timing and 5live.

Mclaren was so stable.... incredible turn in speed no wonder by the time his competitors started the 3rd sector he was already half a second down the road lol.

suprised about redbulls pace... I knew they would struggle but 8 tenths?? crazy.

It's the Sky Sports way I'm afraid. Like some kind of template.
I notice they didnt even bother summarising the rest of the field.
Cheers Daniel Craig (or maybe I'm the only one who thinks this presenter chap looks like him lol)
