The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

Preeeetty sure I said that a few pages back. :p

Don't know why we're still banging on about the same things.

All we can do is wait, and chill. :)

Well just because you said it doesn't mean no one else is allowed to :D

We're still banging on about the same things because it's fun !

A quiet forum is not a good forum, it really is as crushingly simple as that.

Some noise about the performance of the GTX680:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums...orce-GTX-780&p=5070158&viewfull=1#post5070158

"GTX 680 29fps in Heaven Benchmark in Surround.
HD 7970 22fps in Eyefinity.
GTX 590 27fps in Surround."

Possible hint about overclocking performance:

There has been a previous rumour about the GTX680 hitting 1.4GHZ IIRC.

Having said that I had another thought. Why didn't AMD have a Turbo Boost like function for the HD7900 series?? In fact they already do this for one of their CPUs,ie, the E450 which has a similar function for the IGP.

Edit!!

The GTX680 is now the surround MASTER.

Another good find cat, cheers for sharing. :)

Love the MASTER jokes. :D

"we are talking about different cards here, there is going to be a special version, which I'm talking about"

Special version?? Will the surround version cost more and have more RAM??

Another good find cat, cheers for sharing. :)

Love the MASTER jokes. :D

:D

Anyone else pick up any virus/malware on those Chinese links a few pages back ?
Not surprised Norton fell over but I have a Comodo suite also, but I got taken out good and proper :D ....I have not had a virus in Years !

Just can not think what else it was as PC has been off all week !

What I want to know is that if the 680 is going to be 2GB, are we going to be seeing a 4GB version released shortly after? Because that would likely make a difference for 1440/1600p. I'd have to assume that won't be the case, as it's been months since the launch of the 7xxx series and we haven't seen any of the oft rumoured 1.5GB cards. As for the rumour of 1.4GHz overclocks... sounds a bit overly optimistic, especially for a card that was supposedly 700MHz not too long ago.

I'm surprised that nVidia is keeping things so quiet if Kepler is meant to outperform the 7xxx series. Surely they'd want to promote that to avoid losing sales to AMD?

Nvidia is now the silence MASTER*!

You don't happen to have an AMD card by any chance?? I would like to sell you an upgrade....!

I have seen a hint at a 4gb version but not sure if there is any truth in it, would make sense though and would be great to have it on launch day.

oh wow it's 7FPS faster..... i've just creamed my pants ha ha !

.... just like i said, it aint worth the bother

So the short version is it's a little bit faster than a 7970 at stock and so about equal with it when using it's turbo boost and 7970 moderately overclocked (to say 1000/5700 which is what most of the factory clocked models come as).

So roughly the same performance for all intents an purposes at what seems to be roughly the same price. The only question being does the 680 have any additional overclock headroom? This leaves the 110 and Tenerife parts for later in the year for the next speed bump.

Not a bad thing all told, although the fan boys will always argue it's looking like most people can chose the manufacturer or additional features they prefer and get pretty similar performance at similar prices.

so if it's the same price what next !

well no idea, lets see what the price is in july... not long now

Same/little better/little worse performance from the 680 and a similar price? Yeah, I'll take the green offering personally - it does not have to out and out beat a 7970 for me to buy it.
