Guy got arrested for making racist comments on twitter about Muamba

oh some guy called my dead grandmother on twitter a caucasian gargoyle with mutated genes who molests kids..........who gives flying **** im not gonna lose sleep over it and certainly wont be calling the police. maybe if she was famous though some goody2shoes would do it for me.(this is an example didnt happen in real life lol)

its the internet ffs get over it.if you dont like it dont read it,theres an X button on the corner of the window for a reason.. people are gonna be scumbags on and offline thats just life, wasting police time and taxpayers money on a numpty like this who was looking for attention and a reaction isnt going to solve anything. He's still gonna think things like this and wont learn the real reason why he shouldnt say it. he'll just stop it to keep himself out of jail in future but he's still gonna be a racist eejit. imagine if they went around arresting everyone for the stuff they said online lol. a lot of people would be in jail :p

I doubt this idiot would have said a thing like this face to face,he just done it because he's behind his keyboard and is a sick turd.

Im in no way condoning what he said but they could have just deleted his account. id see things differently if he was threateing to kill somebody or something like that. They will never stop douchebags on twitter and other websites, and doing things like this will just make them set up anonymous accounts to do their trolling(that means if they do something in real life later there might be no history of their online crimes to backup a case against them).Concentrate on some real crime like the bankers getting bailouts and wrecking the ecoonomy in cahoots with the government.

I'm all for freedom of speech but not at the expense of people getting away saying all kinds of crap that has no place in a civilised society.

So you're not really for freedom of speech then.

Whatever happened to "sticks and stones will hurt my bones but words will never hurt me"? oh wait I forgot we're all big children nowadays and need nannying by big brother.

Then how come episodes of South Park are allowed to air on TV? Watch a late night comedy show and chances are, race will come up.

I think your claim racism is illegal is dubious.

What does incitement of racial hatred mean? Actively promoting nazism?

Because one is a satirical jab at how racist communities still are, one is a foul mouth personal attack on someone real?

Really not that hard.

Freedom of speech is not and never has been complete freedom from consequence - nor to the point should it be.

I don't know precisely what he said but it shoudn't come as a total surprise to him if he makes available on a public forum something which would get him in trouble in any other public place. It is worth remembering that being arrested doesn't automatically imply that he will be found guilty of the offence - it may be that his excuse regarding his account being hacked is true or there may be other reasons why he would be judged not guilty.

^ Exactly.

I think the twitter/facebook generation believe that posting there somehow makes them exempt from any consequences that might arise if they were to air those views publically elsewhere.

Obviously he wasn't behind the prerequisite 7 proxies.

I know you're joking, but it wouldn't matter how many proxies he's under if he posts under his own name :p

I don't know what he said but unless he was inciting hatred or inciting violence towards someone then I don't think you should be arrested for simply saying prejudice things.

So who says this twitter guy isn't a satire? You can't pick and choose what you take to be satire and what you take to not be satire.

Don't be so condescending.

I don't really understand what you're getting at here.

Why isn't anyone proving that what this guy has said is illegal? If he isn't going to get convicted, how does it make it legal to arrest him if he hasn't broken the law.

Under which law does it specifically say he could've broken it?

Yes you can, that's why one is satire and one isn't.

If you can't tell the difference between satire and blatant racism then it's no wonder you don't understand why he was arrested.

You can easily tell the difference between satire and non-satire.

You can't so easily prove it.

You're a pseudo intellectual at its finest.

This country is ****

My brother not to long ago at school was bullied very badly, there was also an episode at school with my sister. Was anyone arrested NO, they offered counseling not to the bullies but the victims.

Insulting anyone with weight = ok!
Insulting disabled people = OK
Insulting a Coloured person = BAD

Personally I don't agree with ANY of it it's all bad and as such all should be treated equally.

Weight is generally in 95% of fat peoples control, they choose to not do anything about it though so it's not counted with the other 2.

Insulting people with disabilities is never okay, not something they can help, same with race.

its stilll not acceptable to deliberately make somebody feel bad for any reason, the fact they could make themselves thinner doesnt make it right and infact making overweight people feel bad like this could cause them to eat more as a comfort and make them worse or give them suicidle thoughts.

There's still a difference between insulting someone from laziness and insulting someone from factors they cannot control.

Loads of people being done for this recently. Good job, seen too many people post crap up and thing nothing of it.

Public is public.

And Ginger people? I know it sounds funny and being ginger myself I couldn't give less of a hoot but you still see it going on and it does effect those more easily offended and yet it always just gets brushed off as a joke or something a lot less serious than race or disabilities.

Being ginger isn't actually considered bad imo, it's just a hair colour. It's more of something people pick on as banter, as opposed to actually being an insulting. I mean Rupert Grint did wonders for you, lots of teenage Harry Potter fans want to bone a ginger now, use it to your advantage :p

Thats the job of the CPS should they decide to take it up.

If he isn't going to get convicted, how does it make it legal to arrest him if he hasn't broken the law.

Because you are arrested on SUSPICION of breaking the law, and then it is up to a court to decide if you actually did.

Thats how the legal system works.

Under which law does it specifically say he could've broken it?

Why would you expect to be able to find exact details of a case before a suspect has been charged?!

How would you like it if you were arrested for something and the police told everyone exactly what they thought you had done, only for you to be released without charge a day later?

Your points seem a bit... nonsensical.

We've no idea whether what he did was illegal or what he's being investigated for. We'll find out in a few days if he's to be charged or not.
