I got a new job recently and I'm currently working my four weeks notice in my current job, due to finish on 06th April 2012. Well, when I handed my notice in a week ago, my boss restricted my access to our work server which has 'important information' on and he also removed my access so that I couldn't get into the invoicing system. This really p'd me off but I can kind of sort of understand why he did it as he got burnt in the past but I can't help but feel kind of unwanted at the minute, it's really making me feel down and other colleagues aren't talking to me.

Also, I was always the person who had the office keys as I was first one in and last one out. We don't start until 9am but I was always at work ready to open up and switch all the computers on at 8am as I dropped my mum into work on my way, she started earlier than I did so It thought it would be best to start working early each day rather than going home again. Anyway, my boss took the keys off me and now I have to sit outside for 45 or so mins to wait on the office being opened.

Sorry, I know some people will find this stupid but I've been working here almost three years and because I handed my notice in, I feel like I'm dirt :(

At least you can start fresh in April, I wouldn't worry about what others may think etc

Tell your boss that you're ****ed off with how he's treating you and you want the keys to get in early again so you're not sitting outside for 45 minutes. What's he going to do, fire you :p?

There's actually no point in saying anything to him mate because he doesn't trust anyone.

Sorry to be an arse, but I don't believe your boss is doing anything wrong. As for your colleagues **** 'em

I understand why he's done what he has done but I don't think it's right. I don't think everyone should be tarred with the same brush. I just think he's acting like a complete knob and so are my colleagues and I actually can't wait to leave here although I do have three more weeks to endure :(

just suck it up. as said not much you can do. Look to the future.

When I changed last time, many years ago 14ish, I dont think I even gave my keys or phone back for about a month, No one pushed to get them I just took them back as a common courtesy and as I was passing by. And a cup of coffee is always appreciated.

Ask for garden leave?

That's what my company does when someone hands their notice in.

Effectively a months paid holiday or you could even start your new position sooner and have some extra money in the pocket :)

Have the current company accepted you pending references? Personally I would never take the pee / burn any bridges with previous companies as you never know when it could bite you in the bum. Be professional, finish the job.

This is the way forward, but some bosses don't like the idea of paying someone who isn't in the office (even if they've become an ineffective employee due to the boss's actions).

OP, is it possible for you to work from home? If you ask to spend the final few weeks outside the office, your boss should take your meaning and not expect much from you. You've already lost access to everything sensitive, so it shouldn't be that hard to work off-site.
