As much as I think Ken is a bit of an idiot (in general) I have to admit I don't find what he said all that shocking.
To me it sounded like he was telling Muslims from a troubled area (I'm assuming from the previous troubles at that mosque) that he doesn't believe Muslims are to be feared and that the general public needs to learn that as well.
Lets be honest what most people know of Islam comes from the tabloids, so a bit of education on Islam (and all religions & beliefs inc. atheism.) wouldn't be a bad thing in general.
What really needs to happen is for the tabloids to stop reporting when any religious nut job makes a stupid comment. The sooner all extremists are ignored the better!
In a few generations the majority of Muslims will treat religion the same as most Christians do in this country, celebrate the good bits and go a bit lax on the harder stuff.
