Dog attacks police officers

Bull****. They are no more likely to attack then any other breed of dog tbh,.its the type of people who own them.....there seems to be a specific type of person who owns these dogs and they train them to fight and to do stupid stuff and dont treat them with enough respect in general.

Have to agree Cesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer) had a Pitbull called Daddy he was awesome.

As already mentioned some of them had already been bitten.
What's the suffering difference between being shot in the head and put down?
I think it's sensible to shoot a dog in a situation like this rather than risk injury, lets face it, it would have been put down anyway.

To the dog, nothing...to the owner, people watching, kids etc a lot.

The dog is not at fault, the owner should have been dragged out and shot and the dog dealt with properly instead of piece of crap.

besides there are loads of other ways the situation could have been dealt with, but i guess our cops are no longer trained and are allways "shocked" and "scared" when somthing happens that is illegal i guess that's why this country has no law anymore.

oh dear... you can NOT completely train the instinct out of pitbulls, don't be so naive they are not at all like just any other breed of dog.

Well technically all dogs are natural born killers, that's why their teeth look like this... :p

I suppose it's possible that the police didn't want to bludgeon the dog to death but it still looks very... beta.

Its not even the training, they are killers through and through breed for hunting boar, etc. they are a ticking timebomb no matter how well you try to train it out of them.

Pitbulls do have a bad rap in the UK, mainly down to the kind of owner that is attracted to them. In the US, plenty of people have pitbulls as normal family pets and they get along just fine. The owners have a big part to play in how the dog turns out.

i heard that if you ever get bit by a dog with a strong jaw like a pitbull and it wont let go that the best thing to do is to get to a doorway, get its head in the right position and slam the door on it over and over againl. Also heard if you grab the 2 front legs and pull them apart it damages their heart or something and kills them. Anyone know if any of this is true? might be handy to know incase of an unfortunate situation like this.......

If they are brought up the correct way they can be very friendly and not vicious at all, but it is still too risky really. I know somebody who had a staffy/pitbull cross and it was the most gentle and friendly dog I have ever met, could be left around small children who would poke and play with it no problem, never saw it even growl at anybody, lovely dog. You can tell though that it was hard as nails, rock solid muscly and hard to actually hurt it, infact I was once hitting a golf ball down the garden, and the dog ran infront of me mid swing and i smacked it straight in the face, it just looked at me and then carried on happily playing, didn't even yelp.

Training can go a long way but sadly at the end of the day pitbulls are like trying to domesticate a bear or a tiger - you can be somewhat successful but in the end theres a more than moderate chance (significantly higher than most other breed of dog) they will revert to instinct at some point and hurt or even kill someone - dozens of children have been mauled by them due to people being naive enough to think they are just like any other kind of dog.

Most dogs will die, or be very injured with there legs split like that

that door idea is terrible...

SOME dogs are also prone to letting go once you stick somthing up there bum... just incase you ever get bitten, so you don't need to get 15 copeprs and an armed unit over to sort out a small problem.

"There is no single, officially recognized breed of dog named pit bull. The term pit bull generally refers to dog breeds in the Molosser family, including American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Most dog laws include all pit-bull types as pit bulls." (talking about american law there.)

im pretty certain any "pitbull" thats geneticly unstable mentaly enough to be naturaly violent despite a good upbringing has been inbred......i've known plenty of people with them and they never got attacked.

No it's not. Most dogs are not naturally aggressive towards humans.

Dogs arent stupid BTW. they know their own weight and power. if you have a stupid owner who doesnt let them know who's boss then they might abuse the fact that they are a bit of a tank. they only do what they have been allowed to do or trained to do. theres only 1 dog i've heard of thats geneticly predisposed to attacking the owner and it was some daft breed that didnt look dangerous at all and its due to past inbreeding, cant remember what it was called somebody might know.

There are afaik 2 (main) types of American pit bull terrier - those that were trained/bred for on the range and hunting and are/can be quite affectionate with humans and a much lower risk when properly trained and then there are those that were trained and breed purely for fighting and are a much much higher risk - unfortunatly telling which breed they come from is quite complicated.
