Guild Wars 2

With regard to system requirements, almost every impressions post I've read from the weekend's beta said that the game ran like **** on their systems. Apparently it's nowhere near optimised yet, so don't worry about requirements for a while.

Wait until it's optimised, then worry. :)

played the beta at a mates hous at the weekend. game was good, definetly a wow breaker. what i didnt get is the non disclosure that u have to sign.

the media beta has vids strwen all over the net. on the public beta u have ur email watershed into the background to prevent vids.

was the media beta censored?

I was reading an article in PC Gamer UK this weekend on GW2, it looks really interesting but there are a few points that bother me a bit. The holy trinity is gone, ok fine, that should be interesting to experiment with. And the dynamic world questing might make a refreshing change from the traditional quest givers, etc. But one of the points the journalist made was that during his play time he hardly spoke to anyone. Automatic grouping and no fixed roles (tank, healer, etc) made any form of communication pretty much unnecessary. So without the practiced team-play and cooperation of formal groups, doesn't it just turn into an RPG? Its called Guild Wars, but if everything is dynamic then whats the point to having a Guild?

And also what happens with the dynamic event questing when a zone is over populated, and later on quiet? Will you still be able to complete these events solo? I like MMO's for their social aspect as well as anything else they have to offer, but here it seems that GW2 is at its weakest. :(

where are these videos? can u send me a PM? matter of fact can any of the guys who played the beta send me a PM.trust email please of your impressions of the beta. thanks

They are from the previous beta weekend which was just for media...

I can confirm this. The most I got all weekend was a 'ty' for reviving someone. I think I saw maybe 2 lines of local chat.

I was under the impression that the content scaled for the number of people there , so youd still be able to complete the events with lower numbers. To be fair, over the years I've become used to the social aspect dropping away in MMOs, each MMO seems to have less and less chat going on, I actually attribute that problem to the continued increase in voice chat usage. Back in the days before voice chat, we all had to talk ingame on MMOs so there was plenty of chat going on, but as the use of mumble/teamspeak/vent etc increased more and more people talked almost exclusively in their guilds voicechats and less and less in the gameworld chat. I've found that players today are still as social as they've ever been in MMOs, its just that now more than ever, they are being social just within their group of friends rather than the gameworlds.

Of course, I do use voice chat myself, but I also make a point of talking in the chat channels too, to help build community and to also help those people who are not on voice chat to feel a part of whats going on and not to feel like an outsider.

It's still worth joining a guild for the same reasons as pretty much any other MMORPG. You can still quest together even if other people in the area are questing. Guilds allow you to group with people you like playing with for PvP. I don't see how GW2 is any different in this regard...?

Apparently these things scale according to the number of players present. It works in Rift so I don't see why it wouldn't work in GW2.

Mmm, sounds dubious for me then. Maybe it requires more team play at higher levels? Anyway, I was planning to play Tera until GW2 arrived and then jump right in, but I think I'll be a bit more cautious now.

H all could anyone who has tried the beta give me a run down of your impressions of the beta?

Couple of questions i wanna ask:

How well does it run and what is your system specs?

Are all quests truelly dynamic and not like 9/10 mmo's where it tells u where to go to find a quest giver and quest giver then tells u to go to some part of the map with a guide(ie holding your hand throughout the game?).

How big is the game world? is it seamless? not instance based like gw1?

What about combat animation? is it dynamic like Age of conan instead of the usual click click click auto attack? lots of different combat animations?

What about game dialogs? does all NPC'S have actual speech dialog or is it text based like WOW?

Last but not least, can u tel me the bad things about the game(if any?)

thanks in advance and would be very grateful if you can reply! im a massive GW1 fan!

Q6600, 3GB , HD 4850 - Runs with bad FPS.

Visit a scout who tells you where the quests are. Visit the general area to get started on the quest.

Same as other MMO's one big world with small instances.

Didn't notice but it seemed ok to me.

Major story lines had talking, the rest was text.

As someone else said I hardly saw anyone talking. Also since it's new I felt like I was just button bashing. After a while though I read the skill text and began trying to use them in an order. Eventually this led me to find combos!

As yourself I played GW for a long time. I liked the game even if in the end it lacked PvE content.

I had a quick go yesterday.

Game runs fine on my system in Sig, was not as smooth as wow/rift but i did have everything completely maxed out. Better than Star wars if you played that!

The few starting area quests I did were pretty much like every MMO, which is to be expected I guess at early levels, but a few decent quests popped up randomlly as events as i was exploring, stop an invasion etc.

Game world looks nice, it's definitely going to be large. There are a few instances though, stuff like caves and different parts of a city are instanced but i think thats because they are race/background story specific.

Combat is again pretty much your standard mmo - animations looked decent but i only got to level 4 and didnt have much variety. Skills/Traits etc look very impressive though and i can tell already that it will be very good.

Skipped all the quest dialog so cant answer this. My time was limited.

Didn't notice anything that bad to be honest, a few things were a bit confusing at first, as i didnt play GW1 either, but any MMO fan will be able to play it.

In summary im very excited about it. It looks to have amazing character development and offer some very fun content at end game, specifically tournament pvp which im very keen on trying. If you are a fan of mmos then i can definitely recommend looking at this seriously as i cant imagine it disappointing.

Quick question, do you think installing this on an SSD will make level/dungeon loads times a lot better, a bit like map loading on BF3 or is it like LoL, where if you're in a party, it purely replies on when everyone has loaded.

i thought all quests are dynamic events?

what about game bosses? have u encountered any as i heard you can encounter some at low levels?

Any of u tried under water combat?

Is the game when maxed out, the most beutiful MMO game ever?

GW1 it would load fully, people in your party would appear grey until they finish loading. I would certainly use an SSD. Loading is a lot slower then GW1, but then that's to be expected!

I saw two bosses, each time the group that advanced on to the boss got beats pretty bad.

I tried out water combat. Like all other weaponary in the game you have to learn how to spear stuff.

No idea, I turned it up to max but quickly went back to low. Game though even in low still looked nice.
