Robert Bowling has resigned from Infinity Ward

COD was great back in the day when it was PC only and wasn't console focused.

Somewhat agree.

My best CoD days were playing with a clan I've been in for almost 7 years to this day, during the CoD1/UO & CoD2 era. 32 player servers on TDM/CTF were awesome :D

Either that, or the 24/7 pavlov server run by a chap called 'C@rtman'

Omg, I remember playing on that server. That 'C@rtman' fellow had his name is blue, white and red if I remember correctly. Whoever had Pavlov's house won ;D
Was awesome... :( :( :(

There was a guy named Rapscallion, later changed his name to Firefly who would just wipe the floor on that server.

I think I used the name KilledInAction back then.

I still think people aren't looking at the bigger picture sometimes.

Whatever his job title, he acts like a PR guy, one that's got a public face that Gamers actually know and interact with. That's quite valuable in the games industry as there aren't many that people can even name.

There could be numerous reasons why he left... but just like any other job, he may well have been offered better money elsewhere and decided he would also like a new challenge.

I think people sometimes have the blinkers on, thinking that working on COD must be the best job in the world ever, so the only possible reason you could leave is that Activision was some kind of monster that made you go.

You know activsion call the shots. Thats the reason that COD is the same year in year out, even when its made by Treyarch, as opposed to Infinity Ward that he worked for.

Totally agree. I can't see the COD formula changing too much because they simply make too much money from it.

In real terms why should it change drastically?

It's obviously what people want as that is why it sells so well. The things that let COD down are the maps, and some of the BS stuff that is put in it.

With barebones (with the exception of deathstreaks) it pretty much caters for the gun on gun players and also the people who like things blowing up and killstreak rewards, since Black Ops came out with Barebones it's been a better game for it in general.

To be honest I agree with you. They need to strip it back and stop adding stupid things. Make sure the netcode works and it'd be fun again.

barebones without the stupid lag compensator would be pretty amazing i reckon.

You don't think the fact that he was constantly abused online and constantly having to go back on his word due to decisions taken above him might have had something to do with it ? Ok !

Maybe we will see a new COD game with a new graphics engine, instead of using the same old one which is over 12 years old.

Maybe he was in disagreement with activision and the series. His recent comments wouldnt have gone down well:

“I feel like we are in a ******* era where everyone is so focused on subscriber numbers and all that stuff that we need to get back to what I feel like we did so much better in the old days of just plain good will, like stuff like the LAN patch, yeah it is lower priority but let’s get it out the ******* door. Let’s just do it.”

He also said this about map packs and DLC:

So my mentality on it is if you are going to do throw back maps, if you are going to do classic maps, keep it outside of the DLC model. Like for DLC, if you are paying for stuff and it’s included in your subscription, it should all be new content. ‘Give me something new I’ve never seen before’ and that’s not something we’ve done in the past before we’ve included in traditional map packs.

Probably didnt go down well considering Black Ops made $250 million in DLC alone!

Yes exactly that, he was NL I believe. He was a nice guy too, wonder if the server is still going!

He was just doing a job and most of the abuse is going to have come from COD playing cyber kiddies on twitter. He's doing PR work, there is always going to be negativity and I doubt he's the first business or celebrity to receive similar via Twitter.

I think his tweets above show he was pretty frustrated with decisions that were taken above him that he didn't agree with.

He's made statements saying "we're going to do this" only then to be told by somebody else "no we can't do that, rolling out re-hashed map packs is more important, theres no time for that"

Like the LAN patch for the PC version he just mentioned.

It was already confirmed that the Call of Duty franchise will use a new next gen engine for their 2013 release to coincide with next gen technology launches so your a bit late with that "fun" comment

Turns out he wasn't happy with the way Activision do DLC and he wanted to release older maps as free dlc.
And if we want to do a throwback map, let that be outside the DLC model, let it be free, let it be to everyone. Don't let it be restricted by contracts and partnerships and all that ******* money stuff. Let it just be there. So that's what I think. I want to see the new gameplay experience of Modern Warfare 3 in classic maps

I've got a bit more respect for the guy after reading that.
Seems like he actually wanted to give gamers what they want but Activision are only interested in money.

Feel sorry for him?

Respect?

Not a chance, we have all known activisions direction on this for years. He took the money when it suited and spouted all the crap. Now he's pedalling more BS lines and people are feeling sorry for him?

It's an easy thing to say and know you will get the gamers on side. "Poor me, I wanted to give you all this free stuff and they wouldn't let me, so after making myself rich with multiple games I've decided I cannot take them ripping you off anymore"

Just one mans side to a story now it suits his purpose. I'd be happy for them to include every old map with each new multiplayer release, but it won't just be activision that stops that happening, Microsoft wouldn't let them give it away for free either.

You could easily keep players retaining and playing games with a free dlc strategy but MS stamped that out early on. They don't care if you do what you did in years gone by, play a game to death and built up a community. That doesn't make them money. They would much rather you played a game for a week, bought the dlc and moved on to the next clone.

Activision and EA have anger directed their way all the time for DLC strategy, a strategy that Microsoft insisted they take.
