You know what I mean... Those pieces of card people hand each other on birthdays, christmas etc...

I don't see the point of them at all. They don't do anything other than waste time and/or money.
Any cards I receive go straight in the bin or on the open fire.

This past Mothers day, my mum was very upset because although I gave her some nice gifts, I didn't get her a card.
Can someone please explain why some people care so much about such a useless item.

What's your opinion?

I have stopped engaging in christmas and birthdays for years now. I don't buy cards. IF i get a card i read it and put it in the bin.

Thing i find dumbest about cards is that people want to put them up on display, such a stupid tradition. Then you always get some muppet at work who wants to have all these cards from clients and things on his desk for weeks before and after xmas.

Putting up cards on display is completely pointless activity.

Hand made cards are even worse. Then people make out as if it means so much to them that you took a bit of card and wrote something on it. Then they have all these ugly cards no display. *sigh*

Xmas is the worse with all the generic messages and i even wonder people sanity sometimes. They say it is the thought that counts but the person sent out a card with a generic message on it and signed it.

I also think they are such a waste of money, especially for fathers day and mothers day. It's a silly tradition. My dad was miffed at me for no card despite I was taking him out for dinner

I'm not a big fan of cards. They're really generic anyway and I think spending some time with the person is much more valuable than sending them a card.

And you don't do anything at all that others might also view as completely pointless, of course.

I hate cards, but I don't like to upset my mother/grandmother/girlfriend, so I make sure I get the at least a card for 'special' occasions. I however, couldn't care less if I received a card or present...

But i bet this is a common reason why people want cards.

Errrrrrr sorry, not for normal people no!
The reason people like it is because it's thoughtful and touching to think someone has spent time and care making or choosing a relevant card and writing a nice note inside.

It's easy, quick and pretty unthoughtful to grab a present, obviously though certain gifts that have a personal connection to the recipient are an exception to this.

If it was just the thought that mattered why then do they put it up on display? They might not admit it but i bet most people who put cards up on display do it so that other people see the cards and think they are popular or loved etc.
