URGENT URGENT URGENT : POWERLINE

Just very disconcerting, loads of machines turning up when you least expect it!!

I honestly don't think it was malicious, I will be popping over the road to see them tomorrow ;)

I wouldn't be happy, I'd be in full lock down mode, samba shares only to authorised user accounts etc. Glad I get by with lots of wires for the PC's and wireless for the iPhone, iPad and other devices.

Been thinking, your neighbour must be on the same phase as you, either L1 L2 & L3, (three-phase, four-wire) & this is repeated all along the street, so you might pick up other neigbours beside the extra one you already have, as they will be also on same phase as you.

Let's just shake virtual hands smile about it

True. Probably just unlucky that the house across the road is on the same phase. The nearest house on the same phase on the same side of the road should hopefully be two houses away and out of range.

Ignore that, unsure about powerline adapters, do they work at layer 2? Thought for a moment they may be layer 3 so you could subnet your network and limit access that way. Won't work if they're layer 2 though.

Most home plugs have a range up to about 200 metres (656') in perfect conditions, so there is a just a remote chance of others.

Looking at ZyXEL specs for the PLA4205, they also quote 200 metres.

Could give your private network a subnet of 255.255.255.248, that will limit the number of layer 3 devices to 6 hosts.

Yeah I will be taking "measures" tomorrow, it's my own fault for not "securing" the Powerline adapters, just never thought it would be an issue
