Massive dilemma - 680 OR 7970

Right I've waited for Keplar and now in a serious Dilemma whether to buy a 7970 or a 680?

Can anyone justify which one I show go for ?

You can get one of the top end versions of the 7970 for the price of a lower end 680. I suppose it depends on how deep your pockets are

680, unless you play games that edge it with an AMD card, e.g. Deus Ex : HR, Metro 2033. Driver updates will change of course. Always a premium for the top end card.

I plan to play BF3 on ultra at 1920x1080

I've seen a 7970 overclocked which seems to give a massive boost, so a overclocked 7970 will match a 680 as 680's are already overclocked aren't they?

Boost clock on the 680 isn't the same as the peak overclock, you can still overclock further.

Yes, although I wouldn't put a 680/7970 into your cpu if it's still at stock.

Ah really will my processor bottleneck both of them? Bloody hell, AMD processors... Intel seems to be the only option when it comes to a gaming processor

Personally I'd go with a 680, just my preference. They seem very similar, depending on what games you play. I just tend to prefer Nvidia.

You must have some bias?! If not, then the cheapest!

Here's a video about the card. Quite interesting, whatever your preference. It should help to answer some Q's about overclocking / power consumption. Obviously, both newer and future drivers for both AMD and Nvidia will have different results compared to what's demonstrated by these figures.

680 and 7970 are both just as good, you really need to look at other factors such as physx, heat, length, price and eyefinity or 3D. Both cards are really good!
