Hi Guys

I went into PC World today to get some printer paper, while im here, might as well see what they have on display!

I was looking at this PC not a (great Spec) a customer with a sales person came behind me, she said, is this one OK! I wont go into to detail but my god!!

They are full of CRAP, I really felt sorry for that lady:( anyway she the brought PC on HIS approval:rolleyes:

Only If I spent 5 mins with her: OCUK:p

No one came to me, to see if I was OK:D

That's there job though, sell sell sell. Nothing more.

Unlike the people who know and understand computers its very unlikely they'll sell you something, so you go to the easy targets which know nothing about computers.

As a disgruntled ex-employee (as of Tuesday) I can tell you that the sales guys often face the dilemma of having a customer with a set budget. You can either tell them "sorry, but 300 quid is only going to buy you rubbish, come back with more money" or just make them feel better about the inevitable piece of crap they're going to buy, from you or elsewhere. I used to send people here when they were talking desktops and gaming (I have a heart), but if someone had a specific purpose for their laptop and they couldn't achieve that on their budget I'd tell them.

Saying that, I'm probably an exception as most of my colleagues knew nothing about pcs and would go on about the "beauty and power" of a machine to sell it when they didn't know anything with substance.

God no! Theyre missing me already! I moved up to Yorkshire and couldn't get a transfer. I worked in Currys but it's all the same.

But surely that is a major part of your story, because without that extra detail it looks like you've just faceplanted the keyboard and posted the results.

Reminds me of...

Homer: Umm ... I guess I'll take that one.
Salesman: Well, do you need a paperweight? 'Cause if you buy
that machine, that's all you're going to have, an
expensive paperweight.
Homer: Well, a paperweight would be nice, but what I really
need is a computer. How about that one?
Salesman: That technology is three months old. Only suckers
buy out-of-date machines. You're not a sucker, are
you sir?
Homer: Heavens no!
Salesman: Oh good, because if you were, I'd have to ask you to
leave the store.
Homer: I just need something to receive email.
Salesman: [whistles] You'll need a top-of-the-line machine for
that. That's the same computer astronauts use to do their
taxes.
Homer: I was an astronaut.
Salesman: Of course you were.

:D

I've been thrown out of the local store twice for correcting the filth peddled by the staff.

First time one of them was talking absolute nonsense to some guy about home networking gear, and the second time was trying to sell a £2000 Toshiba laptop to a couple of pensioners who just wanted "to email their grandchildren, go on the internet and type up documents".

Disgusting.

Bought a router/modem from them today. To be fair, my knowledge of network stuff isn't great. I did a quick check before hand though. Went in, picked up the one I wanted, checked one very stupid question and walked out. Wasn't too bad. Would have got from here, but there was no way I was going to cope any longer with our awful wireless...

Also as someone pointed out a whole ago, you can't expect them to know as much as everyone in here about pcs. Whilst everyone in here could tell the public about pcs, how many of the other purple shirt products do you know that much about?

That being said I do like to mock them and generally belittle them when I go in :)

True! but you see the "Need any help speak to are highly trained staff signs everywhere!

My point is, I hate being ripped off!! and I hate seeing others ripped off!!

I was disappointed when I went in there - one of the sales guys directed me towards cheaper laptops than the ones I was looking at and proceeded to talk knowledgeably about the components. I had been hoping for some kind of techno waffle in aid of buying a ££££ beast. :(. So let down :(. Of course I didn't buy anything from them as it was cheaper online, and they didn't have anything I actually wanted to buy on display.

In fairness, unless you want to play games then a £300 pc will do everything the adverage pcworld customer will want to do with a PC and will still be sat idle 90% of its life.
Even an i3 is overkill if all you need is Office and Facebook.

Though it did anoy me not long back when i went in MK's PCW and stood around like a lemon duely getting ignored by all there sales staff. Ended up buying from argos in the end. (Kindle).

oh not this again!! How many threads

Please use search next time

Yes we know they are salesmen and not PC techies, their job is to sell what the store has in stock....they sell, they're doing their job properly.

Don't like it, don't go in.

It's not the salesmen or the customers who are idiots but those who spend their time hanging around picking fault. They are the sad ones!
