Is EVGA backplate for the 680 worth £24?

Got my evga 680 and am a little cheesed to see an update for it already in the form of a backplate claiming to knock off a couple of degrees temp.

Why didn't they just come with this plate at launch, really feeling ripped off as I gotta fork out another £24 on top of the £430 I just paid. Also I would like it as I have a side window and the pcb looks horrible but feel they are taking the ****

No, not worth it and as you say a joke really, the cards go to EVGA to be boxed up even if they are reference ones, they put their own sticker on, daft as hell to not bolt on the better backplate at the same time, money making scheme that hurts their customers.

This tends to wind me up, make something bad, then make something else that costs the same to ruddy make, and charge people for it. 3rd party coolers tend to cost more but not much, when you buy one you're talking about a VERY low volume product, if that same sink was on every card sold you'd be looking at vastly high volume and reduced cost, you're talking about a £10-15 heatsink MAX, and this is INSTEAD of the original heatsink that would still cost you £5-10 a piece :(

EVGA get more grief for the backplate because they have them, realise its a good idea and want to charge for something that costs so little, a cooler at least needs a little R&D put into it, though not much when you're just talking about adapting existing designs to fit new cards.

The worst thing about "low flow" backplates is, noise is generally made worse the more surfaces it passes over, the "whoosh" noise of fans as they speed up is made as much from the ultra restricted and high surface area "standard" backplate, you get a lower pitched, less high, less intrusive noise..... this should be a stock backplate on any gpu ever made :(

This.

Conning buggers :P My backplated cards sound different in my RV03 sometimes :(

Get some clippers and go snip snip with the normal backplate. :P

In all seriousness, just a business ploy by them.

Decisions, good looking backplate that doesn't really serve any purpose or a bottle of rum and donner kebab & chips. Backplate does sound like the healthier option though, dam you EVGA.

I was recently begining to like EVGA, but then they pull off crap like this?

Both a backplate and an updated bracket with a few more airholes for sale separately, when they simply should have but them on in the first place?

With the extra £24 you could have waited and bought a *** / Classified edition.

if you buy the Evga SC+ version you gey the backplate for around £11 included with card ...lot cheaper than seperate. ;)

and the evga SC+ Signature Comes with both high flow bracket and backplate

but yes i do understand ...they are just trying to make more money i mean they used to bundle games but they dont do much of that these days either...next theyll be charging for manuals and cables :(

Don't buy them if u don't think they are worth it lol, pretty simple, do other companies ship reference cards with backplates and high flow brackets for free ? i don't think so and i don't think there is even an option to add them either.

Edit: They do look good tho and if u are spending a lot of cash on watercooling and stuff to have a nice looking build then it's up to the individual user to decide if they are worth it.
