Could not believe, what I was hearing!!

Then your grandfather is either a fool or likes spending money pointlessly/doesn't like asking for something cheap. Its not like they keep the prices secret, they're clearly out for all to see so he'd know he was buying top of the range.

Also, rather than coming on a pc building forum bleating about PCW why don't you help him out?

I'm aware they sold him it because he obviously wanted something high priced, I just think they took it too far. He has never consulted me before making such purchases.

Only reason to go into THAT shop is to find all the display machines with an intel chipset and turn all of the screens upside down :p

The monkies never know how to change it back.

Hi Guys

I went into PC World today to get some printer paper, while im here, might as well see what they have on display!

I was looking at this PC not a (great Spec) a customer with a sales person came behind me, she said, is this one OK! I wont go into to detail but my god!!

They are full of CRAP, I really felt sorry for that lady:( anyway she the brought PC on HIS approval:rolleyes:

Only If I spent 5 mins with her: OCUK:p

No one came to me, to see if I was OK:D

Not surprising.

Just over 7 years ago I went along to a group interview (applied for a role as a PC World sales assistant). Anyway, during this 2 hour session the presenters says

"Raise your hand if you think think this is a position for IT/Tech minded people"

I'd say around a 1/3 of the entire room raised their hands..... He then responded "Those with your hands up may want to leave, as this is a retail job and you dont need to be an IT genius to work for us".

Needless to say I was rather shocked. I still stuck around.... Never got the job in the end. Looking back now I'm rather glad as I hate retail!

Lol, When I was in school we used to go into town at dinner break and sometimes mess with the computers in Dixons/Comet/Currys. They hated us, they barely knew how to fix the screen-savers so an autoexec edit that insulted them on startup (with a press any key to continue prompt that booted Windows for them ofc) was hell for them ^^

I went for a job interview at PCW when i was at Uni doing Network Computing. I was rejected because I didnt have enough life experience.

I consider it a bullet dodged.

Back in 2005 they sold my grandfather an AMD64 3800+ with SLI 6600s, he used it until last year to check e-mails when they sold him some laptop that was around £1400, he uses it to check e-mails.

So they sold him a PC that lasted 7 years.

He prob went back to the same place due to the fact he felt the service/product was good?

In my interview/exam i pointed out all the errors in the exam. The rest of the interview consisted of general chit chat with the duty manager.

To be honest I really enjoyed the 2 years-ish I spent as business sales manager in a pc world store. I left about 7 years ago but I had a laugh, got some good friends I'm still in touch with and learned a hell of a lot.

All this switching monitors round/proving a point about knowing more than the staff generally came from spotty sweaty oiks who clearly didn't have the distraction of friends of girlfriends etc to stop them trying to annoy people trying to earn a living to support their families. Winning a geek war rarely figured on the agenda and the people trying to trip you up normally ended up looking like fools themselves.

L33t h@ckz0r5 don't look like Hugh jackman normally.

Funny that!

That's great, but it still doesn't justify them lying to people who don't know enough to argue with them. Surely part of a salesperson's job is to actually sell people the product they need.

Who lied? We did not get the OP's full story. The PC the sales advisor pointed out might of been perfect for what the customer wanted.

He wasn't saying the person in the OP's case lied he was pointing out that the majority of PCW/Comet/Currys/etc staff lie through their teeth to try and sell you something for as much as possible to do a job you can do fine with a <£100 eBay machine.

Another thread basing the purple shirters, they are people doing a job. If you have more knowledge than them great, be more successful and don't end up on the shop floor.
Being a dick mocking their knowledge (which is basically limited to what they need to know to sell a product) is pathetic and you should probably find something more meaningful to do with your time.

Like what has been stated earlier, if people are stupid enough to do no home research, or ask a family member for advice, then go and buy a 2k computer it's their own fault. And yes that's pensioners included.

I can't stand pc world, especially the security. I was there few months ago, I needed to get a wireless KB for my father-in-law, picked up the KB in store and decided to browse around. The security followed me around, got so ****ed off dropped the KB and left the store. Got the KB off ebay instead.
