yea would need spie to buy a boat or to cook a lasagne

Water section shows exactly why making sub forums isn't good. Even the food forum there's less traffic than when we could post in GD.

If you look at how many gardening/DIY threads there is, it's very few.

But, isn't that because GD is for having a laugh/extracting the urine (or is that just how it seems to me). If I asked in the GD section a question like 'I am going to wire a plug, which colour is live' I would be given many correct answers and then would probably told a few wrong answers, then told to man up then someone will call someone else a racist......and it goes on. I think more people will have confidence in asking questions or wanting to discuss projects they have in mind IF the relevent sub-section was in place. When I think 'I wan't to read some funny posts' I head to the GD section not to any of the other section so I think this will 'weed' out any trollers.

Even ignoring stupid responses you still get far more replies in GD, people just don't check suborns unless they're very interested in it.

Should just crack down more on the GD rubbish, although decent threads don't have much spam in them.

isnt that the point? keep out the people who just want to troll topics or post stupid puns ?

so unless you are extremely interested you just post spam/troll? That just inane the case many people reply to threads in GD, but when threads are moved to sub forums they don't. Decent threads get little spam anyway. Look at the old chilli threads, MK walking trip, the house build thread. There's a lot of interest but dedicated sun-forum you lose most of that general interest and makes GD even spammier.

But all I do is post stupid puns! :(

I think sometimes for food related topics, they belong where the OP creates them. For example a 'spec me a tasty pint' or 'look at my big bag of BBQ MEAAAAAAT' could be just as happy in GD as in la cuisine, so I haven't always agreed with when some topics have been moved.

In relation to the home thread idea, I think you'd probably get a greater range of responses in GD because I think people will happily contribute to DIY threads but they won't actively look to do so. This is why some food threads are left a bit empty and limp, when they would take off in GD. On the other hand I can appreciate why a dedicated DIY thread might be useful sans spamio.

I agree I dont actively browse the food sub forum but miss the look at my dinner and such threads from GD now that you have mentioned it.

Another sub forum really won't make much difference to anyone not interested, agree with above that asking advice in GD is mostly a waste of time, I remember someone asking advice on how to remove a tree or something and all he got was abuse until it turned out he was disabled, even then was still a train wreck of a thread.

That was me.

Some of the replies were helpful, but the majority was just immature crap. I got it out in the end though :D

I nuked my garden by slabbing over the ****** just like the gardening forum got nuked. Can't think of anything more dull but to each their own.

There are plenty of mobile phone forums on the net
There are plenty cooking forums on the net
There are plenty of motor forums on the net
There are plenty of sports forum on the net

See the trend here?

I agree with the OP, i thought the gardening subforum was actually a good idea :(

Me too :)

this is the kinda crap im talking about , people who have no interest but come into a thread just to post crap

I know, right.

Let's make it illegal to make jokes now. :)

If you want to know my opinion, I don't mind a gardening forum. Assuming that there's enough interest, that is.

There are only like 2 gardening threads in GD. The chilli thread and a general what are you growing thread. Does that really warrant a sub forum?

I always forget to check all these other sub forums. Just the other day I was thinking how there hadn't been any cooking threads for a while .

It has never ever been mentioned before, it was a joke.

It is not a good idea. A lot of people saying it's a good idea does not make it one.

I don't really see the point in on the water either by the way! For me this goes along with that in the "pointless" basket.
