UFC v Wrestling which sport is more ENTERTAINING TO WATCH

It's not the brutal sport it's painted to be by the uneducated, I suggest anyone who wants an education in MMA to just sit down and watch some of the pre fight build up material or the UFC All Access programmes and you'd soon realise you're dealing with intelligent individuals who have an extremely good work ethic and are far away from being brutish thugs.

Well, let's be honest, there isn't really anything more violent that can be called a sport. It may not be fought by thugs, but it is extremely violent so to say it's a brutal sport isn't exactly unfair.

Muay Thai is far more brutal (IMO).

It's as violent as any other full contact sport, it just has a different rule set.

Granted there is nothing more violent that is sanctioned in multiple countries, but there are other sports which are equally as violent. It's mixed martial arts, it's no more violent than boxing, kickboxing, muay thai or any other martial arts discipline. It's got a thorough set of rules which help prevent serious injury and, more than anything, it's a sport not just a fight.

I can't quite fathom how you can say that.

Boxing - you can only punch in a certain area and if the guy goes down you stop

Kickboxing - no elbows or knees and again, if the guy goes down, you stop.

Muay Thai - Other guy goes down you stop, as with boxing and kick boxing there are no grabs, chokes, holds or ground and pound.

MMA is much more brutal and skilled than any of the others mentioned. The clue is pretty much in the name mixed martial arts.

MMA may seem more violent because of elbows and ground & pound but it's no more dangerous than Boxing. Actually I'd say as far as long-term damage goes, Boxing is more dangerous. The 10 count is hilariously dumb. The thought of allowing a potentially unconscious fighter to return and face even more punishment is ludicrous. Sure some guys may have comeback from a knockdown but is the potential brain-damage worth it?

Same with the NFL. Guys will receive concussions then go back out on the field to play the rest of the game. Crazyness.

Anyways, that's beside the point. The guys in Entertainment Wrestling are talented and in good shape. It takes a huge toll on the body to do what they do. But I just don't see the entertainment in watching fake, pre-determined fights.

I have seen guys half the size of the top UFC guys that would send them to the emergency room in less than 60 seconds in a "real" fight.

Which top UFC guys?

Dom Cruz - 135lbs
GSP - 175lbs
Anderson Silva - 185lbs

The only real big guys are Junior Dos Santos, Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin.

How heavy are the guys you've 'seen'?

That's exactly what I'm getting at though, the mixed martial arts part. How can it be more brutal than those disciplines if it's essentially all of them combined?

Boxing is way more dangerous as you can get KO'd but recover and get up, get KO'd again.

MMA once you are KO'd it's game over, there is no second chance.

I don't understand why people call it fake. Sure some/most of the punches and kicks either don't connect or they don't punch/kick them as hard as they can but the slams and falls on to the floor in and out of the ring are still very much real and according to Brock Lesnar in an interview after joining UFC, can hurt like hell. He mentioned how he had friends ask him to powerbomb them in the ring at his home and that they were amazed how painful it could be. There is still an injury risk involved in wrestling so I don't understand the whole "Fake" claim.

They can and do get injured, but they're not actively trying to injure each other are they.

There is a pre determined winner, it's fake as far as they are not actively competing to try and beat each other, they just both help each other look good until the pre chosen winner "wins".

Where as in MMA they are actively competing against each other, they are trying to knock the opponent out or submit them, the other person isn't assisting them in anyway. It's an actual fight, well a sanctioned fight with rules but the closest to a fight you can get in sport.

I know. I already said that with the whole 'toll on the body' thing. For sure they get hit, etc.

Fake as in the moves are predetermined. So it's not a real 'fight'. It's fake. Play-acting is a good way of putting it.

I am hugely into MMA viewing now and was into Wrestling Entertainment when I was younger. My attention wandered from that when the personalities of wrestlers started to disappear, but with a new generation I guess new fans have come and gone feeling the same way about their generation of fighters.

In all, it's all down to what people want to watch, they're for different audiences and it's up to them to make a decision on what they want to enjoy.

If wrestlers actually put any force behind their punches theres no way they would be able to wrestle every night. Just the travelling from city to city alone would be enough to take it out of most people.

Theres a reason why boxers/mma fighters can only fight a few times a year and wrestlers can do it every night.

I'm a massive UFC fan, but I do find the storylines in wrestling can also be incredibly compelling to watch. For example when I woke up on Monday morning the first thing I did was google to find out who won the HHH vs Taker match at Wrestlemania, even though I've not watched wrestling for about 3 years.

Wrestling is fake, there is no two ways about it, the outcome of the bout is decided by the storyline that the writers are trying to push. Of course some of the bumps are real, and mistakes / injuries happen but it is not a real physical confrontation like the UFC is.
