Vertex 4!!!!!! Vertex 4!!!!!! - BUY NOW!!!!!!

its 30% or so faster at least and in write speeds on the 4K 65THRD sector it scores 3x as fast! Thats your windows files right there, its VERY fast thats fore sure! :D

Just wondering which results you used to calculate that 30%? I can see the 4K 65THRD sector results are impressive but all the seq read/write results seem a little low to me.

Awesome stuff,I love my 2x Vertex 60GBs very good performers so i bet these vertex 4s are insane performers!

Might get me a 256mb model when i do my Ivy bridge build. :)

Crystaldiskmark and ATTO show a best case scenario, the AS SSD shows what you will get constantly to describe the results in the most basic of ways. As such, the AS SSD shows the drive to really shine, which is why the M4 looks awful on ATTO and Crystal disk too.

Okay fair enough AS SSD is the best benchmark if you want results closer to real world numbers, however that didn't really answer my question of where you got the 30% from? The only result which I can see being an improvement of around 30% is the Acc time but I'm only guessing that's the metric you're referring to for the "30% faster" conclusion. :)

I personally wouldn't touch OCZ. Rather have reliabillity over speed.

I've had the original Vertex 2 since release without problems, and I had 1 of there cheap PSU for over 2 years without problems too so I dunno why you think that

Also I wish we'd stop using *Fastest on the planet*, yeah its only fast till the next Vertex :p

Andrew Moore - Help me out here please as gibbo says you're the man to ask.

Which would you have out of the 180gb Intel 520, and the 256gb Samsung 830. Both work out very similar price per gb once cashback is factored in.

I have a Vertex 1 60GB and want a newer, faster drive. The issue is that I have the poo Marvel Sata 3 controller which is rubbish (1st gen i5) and will use it on Sata 2.
I realise I won't see speeds over 280mb/s but I don't want to spend £110 on the 120GB Agility 3 when the Vertex 4 is almost here.
I may update my rig in the next 12 months but then again I may not.

I am thinking of purchasing a 128GB Vertex 4 drive - Is there any good reason for me not to? The speed average speed increase will still be amazing.

What is the DRAM cache "up to 1GB" referring to, cant see it mentioned in reviews?!

DRAM

2 x 512MB DDR3-800 512GB

2 x 512MB DDR3-800* 256GB

2 x 512MB DDR3-800* 128GB

*Only 512MB of DDR3 will be used, future versions will ship with 2 x 256MB devices

I would personally go with the Intel 520 Series for Warranty purposes alone, the drive is similar speeds to the Samsung in most cases where in some cases its faster, others it is not. I suppose it all depends on what your using it for but as a day to day PC with the odd bit of photoshop, gaming and video editing I would go with the Intel. :)

i'm confused.
How are these faster than the Vertex 3 when the write times are so much slower.
The benchmarks you have posted all make me think the Vertex 3 is faster... If i'm interpreting this wrongly, then so will others, maybe an explanation under each test?

The random r/w on this drive are a league and a half ahead of the vertex 3 with the aim of trying to edge towards the Intel 520.

If you're doing high seq reads then forget these drives as the cheap M4 will more than satisfy.

Anything intensive/server orientated then these are worth looking at but looking at the benchmarks I would still side with the 520s. Also OCZ has returned to the Indilinx controller with the Vertex 4 so there may be initial teething problems

Thanks for the reply mate :)

I think your m4 benchmarks are a bit off tbh

still a nice improvement over the vertex 3.

All drives are benched on the same system, so the system may not perform as well as it could but keeping everything bar the drive the same makes for a better comparison :)

Cheers just read that, so the lower capacities cannot address the full 1GB although physically it remains in situ.
