19k is too much to spend on something like that. Rather spend a little more and get an F10. It won't be a 535d or an M Sport but that's made up for by the fact it won't be a e60.

Was hoping you'd say that. I think you're right about the F10, but I'll have to finance anymore than 19k.

options are the same except the lane exit, you're happy 6 months newer more mileage, diesel and m sport is worth £9K additional, screams depreciation too me, in two years it'll be worth £8k private

Was just thinking that, similar cars seem to be £14k+ which is getting far closer to the 535d's asking. Ok he may have gotten the car cheap for some reason but it's not really a fair comparison.

There is nothing wrong with the car - it's as good an example as you are likely to find and its price reflects that.

What requires careful consideration though is whether you want to spend £19,000 on a 4 year old previous generation 5 series which you'll pile 60,000 miles onto over 3 years.

The E60 is getting on a bit now - and was never the most nicely built of the 5 Series in the first place. This would therefore seem like strong money to be spending on a previous generation car especially when only a small amount more gets you into current generation kit from other manufacturers. It also gets you an F10 - sure it wont be an M Sport or a 535d but frankly I'd rather a low end F10 than the very best of E60's (Which is quite a contrast from my normal view!).

It makes it a bit tedious bringing it up in such discussions, however. It's like bagging a Rolex for 1k due to the owner wanting rid quickly and then proceeding to go around telling people who are about to buy one for 10k 'what makes yours worth 9k more than mine?' :p

That price is the correct market value (or there abouts) for that car. What you got was fantastic bargain. Thus not really much of a comparison.

However I share the above view - too much money for a previous gen 5. Rather stick to your A5 plan, if you like it.

I do think it goes to prove how much it impulse buying costs people if you wait or as I do not generally need a car just buy a bargain when one arises and sort out the finance somehow. It was for sale for a couple of weeks, I didn't get great advice and view it for another week and then they guy didn't even want a deposit and I knocked him down. If it wad such a bargain someone else would have swooped in.

For the record the a5 idea was great
