There are some cool pictures of people who've built it into their dash..

I use torque all the time - great little tool and saves lumping a laptop around. Be aware though that i've struggled to get it to play properly with older (i.e pre 2003ish ) cars. I had trouble getting it to keep a constant connection in my 2001 Mr2, a friends 2003 Civic and a 2001 avensis (thinking about it maybe it's older jap cars that are an issue) - could read the dtc's but live logging was an issue.

It's not the app itself that's the problem but the bluetooth adapter as it's a cheap copy (like most will be). Works fine with the (2007) civic and with all other cars i've tried it in that are post 2003 though. Well worth buying if you find the free version useful as it's so cheap and gives the guys who make apps like this encouragement to keep updating etc.

on a car that old it might be obd1 instead of obd2.

It is, I've an adapter that changes to the round obd1 style from the rectangular obd2 which I then had to make a small modification to (can't remember exactly what). This was with one of the fixed obd2 to usb cables, I believe it works far better with a proper serial cable. Have my doubts over whether you could get the (cheap) bluetooth sender to work right.

This is now my go to software for checking error codes, sensor outputs etc. replacing VAG-COM or whatever it is called now.

Also handy that I can use it on our Fiat too.

Ahh damn you just made me spend money, which on eBay is a decent obd2 there's hundreds

Depends what you want to spend - a £18-20 ish "elm327" (it's not, it's a copy) should be ok. *edit they're even cheaper now, can't see them being any different*

If you're spending £70+ you may be better buying direct from the manufacturer or a known distributor as I wouldn't be confident the ebay items are real

It's useful but won't replace the likes of vagcom as the android app can't turn settings on/off - auto locks for example

Sorry, I should have been more specific. For my uses it replaces VAG-CAM as I only had the free version and only ever used it for error codes.

Don't suppose you fancy popping round and plugging in to the Galant do you? Got a dodgy ABS sensor but I've no idea which one it is.

There may be a button on the adapter itself to make it visible / make the adapter search for your phone. I would check this and also make sure your phone is set to visible for 30 seconds or whatever.

I take it you have the adapter plugged in, ignition on and the lights are coming up on it?

Are you searching through the phones own list of bluetooth devices or via torque? try both
