Peoples thoughts on a Clio MK2 DCI 100...

Yeah you will notice it on the diesels. I have a Clio 172 which has no torque, has to be revved to get anywhere

What a load of nonsense. My 1.0 Micra has 59hp and 59lb/ft of torque and that has to be ragged due to the long gear ratios.

A 172hp 148lb/ft car of similar size and weight does not need be revved to get anywhere.

In comparison to a DCI 100, yes it does.

Most of the Clio 172's power is above 5.5k revs due to the VVT.

Whats VVT?

And what happens when you go and see it, find out why it is selling for less than every other Mk2 DCI 100, and want your deposit back?

Was poorly advertised and also lives in the middle of no where in wales, might have something to do with it.

Also i have been looking for one for ages and this was the best match i found worth a shot.

Deposit is none refundable as he doesnt want any time wasters and iam 95% sure iam going to buy it has it has all the extras.

Even if it needs a little work it should still be worth the money.

I'd be very uncomfortable putting down a non-refundable deposit on a badly advertised car I'd never seen and is under market value. What if it's a total nail?

Have you done a HPI check and MOT history?

Its a risk i am willing to take as all the photos and info i've got of it seem very genuine and has all its sevice history. The guy is selling ot on behalf of his daughter which is looking for a fast smooth sale from what i spoke to him over the phone.

Iam willing to spend up too £500 if anything needs doing on it as i think it would be worth doing that much. I am exspecting the timing belt to be needing to be replaced as its over 6 years old but its still under the 80K which is (from what i read) when it needs replacing.

Edit: whats a HPI check? and it is M.O.Ted till may of this year

HPI is a check to make sure the car hasn't been written off by an insurer or stolen and recovered previously. It's a must before putting down any money.

You can check the MOT history online, this allows you to see the mileages recorded at each MOT and check the car has not been clocked (had the mileage reduced illegally).

At the end of day the car maybe legit and a bargain, but I'd not have put down any cash on a car without at least an HPI check and ideally seeing it.

First off ignore all the haters in here, they are just jealous. Typical OcUK really, if its not a BMW or a Mondeo they just hate on you.

Putting down a £250 non-refundable deposit on a privately advertised car you've never seen located some distance away from your house and priced at under the market value is a perfectly logical thing to do - thats how you get the bargains. It'll be fine, its a diesel Clio, the mpg will be so awesome it'll make up for everything else.

I'd imagine its cheap because the guy is just a nice chap who wants to give somebody a good deal. Also, the dci100 has loads of torque so it really is quicker in the real world than a 182.

This thread is awesome.

I was actually buying that for the first line! But normal service was swiftly resumed.

Thank you for your possitive comments also this part ...

That cant be true other wise it would make the 182 pointless wouldnt it ?

Buying a private used car without buying it is a really silly thing to do. Everything looks nice in pictures, I learnt this when it took me 3 months of looking to find a half decent Focus and that isn't a particularly rare car.

I take it TW Fox is being sarcasitc :o

Of course.

In reality it's a terrible idea which has a 90% chance of ending in tears and a 10% chance of fluking its way to being not quite as bad as it could have been.

Don't put deposits on cars you've never seen unless it's a 2 year old main dealer approved used car or something (That said the guy I sold my 335i to left a deposit but.. it was rather different). A huge amount of used cars on the market are simply **** and you never find out how **** until you see them with your own eyes. The cheaper it is the more likely it is to be a horrendous nail.

The worst thing about is as you have lost the £250 whatever happens you'll be tempted to gloss over faults and issues once you get to the sellers house. And you wont be able to negotiate on price, because he knows you'll not walk over a few hundred quid as you've already paid him £250!
